REnULAR MONT HLY MEET mG BOARD OF HEALTH
HELD IN OFFICE OF BOARD
JANUARY 4, 1961

Present: Mr. James M. Hall, Jr.~ Chainnan; Dr. J. C. Knox, Dr. James H. Smith,
Dr. R. Bryant Hare, Jr., and Mr. E;:<rl C. Funderburk.
On motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Knox, the minutes of the last meeting
were approved without reading; copies having been sent to the Board members. Carried.
MOtion was made by Mr. Funderburk that the Ex-officio members elect Dr. J. C. Knox,
and Dr. R. Bryant Hare, Jr. Medical Members and Dr. James H. Smith, Dental Member,
of the Consolidated Board of Health for a period of two years. MOtion seconded by
Mr. Hall and carried.
In the absence of the Health Director, due to illness, the Board decided to
appoint all health department personnel for an interim of ninety days. Motion was
made by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Hare and carried.
Motion was made by Dr. Knox that in the absence of the Health Director checks
for the Consolidated Board of Health be signed by Mr. Funderburk as Member Board
of Health. MOtion seconded by Dr. Smith and carried.

Dr. Hare made motion that Dr. J. C. Knox be appointed as Medical Consultant for
the Consolidated Board of Health during the absence of the Health Director. Motion
seconded by Dr. Smith and carried.
- Mr. Lassiter reported on the status of the se..:age disposal matter for a mortuary
to be built at Winter Park. Mr. Lassiter stated that a letter had been received
from Mr. Stevenson of the State Board of Health and that a copy of this letter had
been sent to Mr. McKim. Mr. Stevenson in his letter recommended that certain type
of installation be installed in order to prevent any danger of the mortuary waste
contaminating the ground in the surrounding area. The Board suggested that the
operator of the proposed mortuary be advised of the possibility of damage suits
originating from individuals in the immediate area. There was a general discussion
of the use of plastic pipe for the carrying of drinking water, but no action was
taken at this time.
Chairman Hall directed that a copy of these minutes be sent to Mr. Herbert Swain,
Chainnan Board of Health, Brunswick County, together with a letter explaining the
reason for actions taken by this Board in the absence of Dr. Davis, Health Director.
Motion to adjourn was made by Dr. Knox.
