Present: Mr. James M. I'.all, Jr., Chairnan; Dr. J. C. Knox, Dr. James H. Smith
and Dr. R. Bryant Hare, Jr.
Chairman Hall had notified the Hc;alth Director that due to a funeral he would
be a little late and the meeting was callcd to order by Dr. Knox.
On motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Hare, the minutes of the last meeting
were approved without being read; copies having been sent to the Board members.
The Health Director mentioned that he and ~rr. Lassiter had accidentally stumbled
upon Hufham's dump on Masonboro Sound and that he '<as making no effort to cover
it. In a discussion the Board members suggested that in view of the situations
that existed, that even though nothing v;as done at this time, that we keep a check
on the dumps.
Chairman Hall brought up the question of the dragline, and after a discussion
Chairman Hall stated that Mr. Usry, state Board of Health, said no question would
be raised as to the ovmership of the equipment. Chairman Hall further stated that
Mr. Usry was in favor of retaining the existing drainage committee to act as an
advisory group to the health department in its mosquito drainage program; he felt
that the committee could be very helpful in securing right-of-ways. It was moved
by Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Hare, that the Board of Health proceed with the mosquito
drainage program with the cooperation of the State Board of Health. Carried.
- The Board further sUGgested that Mr. Usry be invited to meet with the local health
department and the drainage committee.
Dr. Knox called to the Board's attention the possibility of securing additional
money for polio vaccine, and suggested that the Health Director get in touch with
Mr. Dorsey.
The Health Director mentioned the fact that all of the hospitals had not been graded
when the publicity showing the grade was carried by the local press. He stated that
the other hospitals had since been graded.
Chairman Hall mentioned that he had been at Uncle Henry's Oyster Roast and had
observed a 1959 card displayed. It was suggested that one of two things nec;ded to
be done; if Mr. Haas has too much work to do there should be a re-division of work
load; if this is not the case then he should be brought before the Board to show why
his WOIK is not being done. The He",lth Director stated that he would talk with him
and if no improvement was shown he would be called before Ithe Board at their next
meeting.
The Health Director discussed the availability and limitation for distribution of
Gamma Globulin.
On motion by Dr. Smith, seconded by Dr. Hare, the meeting adjourned.
