HomeMy WebLinkAbout12/09/1966 44 REGULAR J.EmTING OF BOARD OF HEALTH, December 9, 1966 - Present: Dr. J. W. Hooper, Chairman, Dr. J. C. Knox, Dr. James Tidler, Attorney Bradford L. Tillery Hinutes of the November 4th, 1966 meeting were approved by motion of Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Tidler. Plumbing Bompanv Contests Plumbing Code: Hotion was made by Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Tidler, that the Board ratify the telephone poll of Board Members regarding the Plumbing Company that had planned to contest our Plumbing Code in court. The vote was in favor of letting them go ahead and contest it. Hotion carried. ~~. Tillery reported that the company had decided to go ahead and abide by the code and were not going to take it to court at this time. Fee for Home Health Service: Hotion was made, seconded and carried that we ratify the decision made on collecting fees for Home Health Service. Dr. Hooper had made the call referred to in the minutes of November 4, 1966, and was advised that l'/hile the Medical Society was not in favor, they had gone along with this, since if they did not, another agency would take over the Home Health Service Program. The Board asked for a report at the January meeting on Home Health Service Visits, collections, etc. Air Pollution Heeting: Dr. Knox made a motion, seconded by Dr. Tidler, that ~. Bradford L. Tillery attend the Air Pollution Conference in vlashington, D. C. on December 12-14, 1966 along with ~. W. H. Cranford, Director of Sanitation and I.~. Danny West, Sanitarian. This trip will be financed by monies from the Air Pollu- tion Grant. -~ Change in Classification for Sanitarians: Request viaS made that we change the classification of J.~. Frank Olive and ],~. Danny West from Sanitarian I to Sani- tarian II. He have the money in the Air Pollution Grant for the increase in salary for Hr. vlest but the County will need to provide additional funds for ]c~. Olive's increase. This will be referred to ~~. J.srshall to be considered along with other salary increases the first of January. Dr. Tidler made the motion, seconded by Dr. Knox, that this board go on record as being in favor of the increases and that the matter be referred to J.~. ]'srshall, County Hanager. Hotion carried. School Dental Program: Notion was made by Dr. Knox, seconded by Dr. Tidler, that we proceed with plans for a dentist from the State Board of Health to come on January 23rd for 30 weeks of work in the schools. J.:otion carried. A request has come to the Board for services of this Dentist to some twelve or so medically indigent children attending a Catholic School here in Wilmington. This matter was referred to }~. Tillery for study. By common consent, the Board agreed that it was their intention to continue the school dental program in 1967-68 and that we would cooperate with the schools in the surmner dental program. ~ . Plumbing: Journeymen Plumbers Purchasing Permits: Attorney Robert Kennon and Ik. Roy Burnett, plumber, appeared before the board on behalf of a delegation of llaster Plumbers who remained in the hallway. The plumbers were contending that according to a 1935 law that no one should be sold a plumbing permit unless they had insurance and state license, and that journeyman plumbers should not have the privilege of buying permits in New Hanover County. The Master Plumbers are asking if this is ~ 442 :::: ::il::t :::~ C:~:~:.:~:~:: :.~~t:~:':a:-1aintJ was submitted by the committee and accepted by our Board was rejected by the State Building Code Office. The committee began work on amendments to the State Code as requested, but were informed that the State Code was to be re- written and advised to wait until this was done. lir. Cranford was asked to find out what the State plans to do about rewriting their code so that we can decide what to do about our code. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
