REGULAR MEETING OF BOARD OF HEALTH, April 2, 1969

Present: Mr. J. M. Hall, Jr., Chairman, Dr. James Tidler, Dr. James Smith,
Mr. James Fox, Attorney, Dr. Frank Reynolds
Minutes of the March 5 meeting were approved by motion of Dr. Reynolds, seconded
by Dr. Tidler.
Laboratory: A letter was read from the State Board of Health Laboratory Director
stating that no fees are charged by local laboratories except to other counties,
and that no fees are charged by the State Laboratory. (See March minutes for
explanation) It was suggested that several counties be contacted to see what
they are doing locally. (Letters were written to Wake, Guilford, Mecklenburg,
Forsyth, Durham) The Board will discuss the laboratory further at the next meet-
ing after this information is received.
New Quarters: Dr. Knox reported that Mr. Jeffries of Ballard, McKim and Sawyer
is in the process of drawing up plans for us. Mr. Jeffries has visited the depart-
ment, seen our crowded conditions and has measured the floor space.

Discussion of Food Supplement Pro~ram: A letter was read to the Board from Miss
Elizabeth Jukes, Nutrition Section, State Board of Health, concerning a food
supplement program for children and expectant mothers. This food would be issued
by perscription. The Board in general feels that since the Welfare Department is
already involved in Food Programs that this should also come under Welfare. Dr.
Smith made the motion that this be left up to the discretion of Dr. Knox. Motion
was seconded by Dr. Smith. Motion carried. (Mr. Fox suggested that Dr. Knox
write to Miss Jukes and ask if Welfare can legally administer this program.
Milk Inspections: A letter was read from Dr. Black, Columbus County Health
Director, stating that his Sanitarian will not be able to grade the dairies in
Columbus County any longer, due to the shortage of help.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
