HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/04/1970 MINUTES OF BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING - March 4, 1970 509 005C9 Present: Mr, J, Van B, Metts, Jr" Chairman, Dr, Heyward Bellamy, Dr, James Smith, Dr, Frank Reynolds, Dr, James Tidler Minutes of the February 4 meeting were approved by motion of Dr, Bellamy, seconded by Dr, Tidler, Visiting by Nurses in Districts: Dr, Knox brought to the attention of the Board that several of our nurses have been frightened while visiting in their districts by groups of males gathering outside of the homes in which they were visiting, When the nurse starts back to her car these males ask them to take them for a ride, etc, After much discussion and many suggestions, such as, bringing this to the attention of the Good neighbor Council, putting radios in the nurses cars, keeping a list of times and places this occurs; it was decided that this is an administrative problem and suggestion was made that Dr, Knox talk with the Chief of Police and the Sheriff to see if the nurses could carry some sort of protection with them, . New Quarters: A report was given as to recommendations by Mr, Reagan of Reagan Construction Company for renovating the JWMH building, It was suggested that we first check with Mr, James Fox, attorney, to see if we are required to have an engineer or architect draw up the plans for heating, air conditioning, plumbing and wiring since it is a public building, After this has been checked, the next step is to find out what the immediate cost for this would be and, working with Mr, Bowden, present this cost to the County Commissioners, It was also suggested that we find out how much it will cost to bring the existing elevator into first class condition, It was suggested that except for the above mentioned items, that workmen be put on the County payroll to do the carpenter work and painting, Plumbing Examination for Journeyman Plumbers: Motion was made by Dr, Bellamy, seconded by Dr, Smith and carried, that the attached amendment to the plumbing code be adopted, Solid Waste Disposal: At 8:45 A, M, the members of the Board attended a meeting in the County Commissioners Building where slides were shown of existing conditions in the County, The presidents of the Home Demonstration Clubs and the Garden Clubs were present for these films, Since the hour was so late when this meeting was over the quorum was lost, so the meeting was adjourned, Respectfully submitted, Approved: April 8, 1970 /nl~ 7!J fJ~ I , AMENDMENT TO PLUMBING REGULATIONS - Adopted March 4, 1970 105-3 (c) Journeyman plumber is a person skilled or trained in the installation of a plumbing system in commercial or residential properties; and shall have in his possession a valid license issued by the New Hanover County Plumbing Examin- ing Board and/or a valid license from another county in North Carolina or from another State. A license may be issued to a journeyman plumber without examina- tion if he possesses a certificate stating that he has completed successfully a course of training in plumbing offered by Cape Fear Technical Institute or such certificate issued by another Institute (Technical) approved by the N. C. Board of Education. (d) All plumbing installations in the City of Wilmington and the County of New Hanover in new buildings or alterations of existing plumbing of major proportion shall be made by, or supervised by a journeyman plumber. (e) Board of Plumbing Examiners shall consist of: one master plumber, one journeyman plumber, one general contractor, one professional engineer and the plumbing inspector of the Health Department. (f) Examinations shall be given at least twice a year, March 1 and September 1. 1. Application for examination shall be made thirty (30) days prior to examination. 2. Examination shall consist of a written and oral examination. 3. Any or all of examination may be waived if in the opinion of the examining board the candidate provides proof of recent graduation from an approved Technical Institute or a recent valid license from another county or state testifying as to his efficiency in installation of plumbing systems. 4. Examination fee for plumbing license shall be ten ($10.00) dollars. 5. Renewal of license - each 2 years. Fees for renewal - $3.00. 6. This license may be revoked by the Examining Board at any time the individual fails to comply with the plumbing regulations.
