BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING, November 4, 1970

Smith, Mr. Ed Carter, Dr. Heyward Bellamy and Mr. James Fox,

Minutes of the October meeting were approved as presented.
Famphlets for Building Requirements in New Hanover County: Dr. Knox had been
working for several weeks on eome pamphlets for distribution to prospective
builders in the county stating the things that are required and the order in
which they are required. The members of the Board all felt that this idea was
very good. As soon as these are studied by all departments concerned they will
be printed for distribution.
Check Valve on Community Water Systems: Dr. Bellamy was concerned about three
schools which are on Community Water Systems and the danger of feed back from'
new lines being added to the systems. The Board suggested that Dr. Knox write
letters to Mr, Marshall Staton at the State Board of Health and to the Utilities
Commission in Raleigh asking what other communities are doing in this regard and
also what the USPHS recommends. Mr. Bill DoBo claims that he cannot install
them since the Utilities Commission sets his fees and he cannot charge for them.
He wants the plumbers to install them. After these answers are received this
will be brought back to the Board for action.

adopt the following:

"Resolved, that the ordinance adopted by the Board of Health on February 2,
1967, regulating septic tanks and private water supply is herewith amended
by deleting Section 44-A(x) and Section 44-A(y) and in lieu thereof the
following language:
(x) Pressure tanks of not less than 42 gallon capacity are recommended.
Tanks may be either hot-dipped, galvanized or glass lined.
(y) Pumps of not less than one-half horse power are recommended."
Motion carried.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
