-
Present: Dr. Heyward Bellamy, Chairman, Dr. James Smith, Dr. James
TidIer, Dr. Frank Reynolds, Mayor John Symmes, Mr. Meares
Harriss, Mr. John Oxenfeld, Mr. H. A. Marks, Mr. James Fox,
Attorney and Mr. Charles Boney
Minutes of the August 2 meeting were approved as presented.
Measles Vaccine: Dr. Bellamy announced that the mass measles campaign
in the schools had been tentatively set for October 23.
Board of Health. A letter had been received from Mr. Lawrence Bowden,
County Administrator, stating that the Commissioners had decided that
Board Members should be allowed to serve only two consecutive terms.
Mr. Fox stated that this ruling does not apply to the Board of Health
since our Board is established by statutes set forth by the State of
North Carolina. Mr. Marks and Mr. Harriss stated that this was meant
only for the boards appointed by the Commissioners.
New Quarters: Mr. Boney reported that the soil tests have been made and
while they were not the best there was nothing seriously wrong. He also
presented some drawings that had been prepared and stated that he would
probably have the narrative and schematic drawings ready to present to
Medical Care Commission next Monday. In discussing the site and the pre-
serving of land for future use it waS suggested that he explore the possi-
bility of a split level building or making the structure strong enough to
add a second story in later years. Mr. Boney stated that he would explore
all these possibilities and would confer with the staff of the Health Depart-
ment and would possibly need a special meeting of the Board after this study
was completed.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned.
