Chairman O'Shields called the Special Meeting to
order stating the purpose of the meeting was to discuss
and review a proposal to purchase land in Hillsdale for
installing an underground lift station
APPROVAL OF PURCHASE OF LAND IN HILLSDALE AREA FOR
INSTALLATION OF LIFT STATION
County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, presented a
proposal for the purchase of land in the Hillsdale area
for installation of an underground lift station stating
the price was very reasonable requesting authorization
for the contract to be drawn.
Commissioner Barfield commented on
stations in residential neighborhoods
avoiding this if at all possible
placing lift
recommending
After discussion, Commissioner Blake MOVED, SECONDED
by Commissioner O'Neal to authorize the purchase of the
land with the Legal Department preparing the necessary
documents Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY

O'Shields for Chairman
There being no other nominations, County Attorney
Pope declared the nominations closed
Commissioner Retchin MOVED, SECONDED by Commissioner
Dolan to elect Commissioner O'Shields as Chairman by
acclamation Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY
Chairman O'Shields opened the floor to nominations for
Vice-Chairman of the New Hanover County Water and Sewer
District
Commissioner O'Neal nominated Commissioner Barfield
for Vice-Chairman
There being no further nominations, Chairman
O'Shields declared the nominations closed
Commissioner Retchin MOVED, SECONDED by Chairman
O'Shields to elect Commissioner Barfield as Vice-
Chairman by acclamation. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED
UNANIMOUSLY
APPROVAL OF CAPITAL PROJECT ORDINANCE FOR AREA nAn PHA E
II - SEWER SYSTEM; PROJECT ORDINANCE AREA nBn PHASE II -
SEWER SYSTEM; AND PROJECT ORDINANCE FOR SOUTHSIDE
TREATMENT PLANT
County Manager Cooper gave background information on
the Pro ject Ordinances requesting approval of the
District
After discussion, Commissioner Barfield
SECONDED by Commissioner O'Neal to approve the
Ordinances as submitted. Upon vote, the MOTION
UNANIMOUSLY

DISCUSSION OF SCHEDULE FOR WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT
MEETINGS
Ms Lucie Smith, Clerk to the District, suggested
publishing a schedule as of January 1, 1985, for Water
and Sewer District meetings to be held on the 3rd Monday
of each month in order to avoid calling Special Meetings
which require public notice

After discussion, it was the consensus of the Board
to publish a schedule for Water & Sewer District
meetings to be held regularly on the 3rd Monday of each
