PUBLIC HEARING
I
Chairman O'Shields stated notice had been given
that a Public Hearing would be held at 9 00 o'clock A.M. and
asked if anyone present wished to speak on the issue or
question Engineering Director Hilton The following persons
commented
Mr M. H. Vaughan
Mrs Myrtle Barnhill
Commissioner Blake stated that as a taxpayer and
citizen of New Hanover County, and not as a Commissioner, he
felt this project was an absolute necessity for this County
stressing the fact that he did not mind his tax dollar being
used for this project and hoped that other citizens of the
County would feel the same.
Commissioner Gottovi stressed the importance of
encouraging development of undeveloped areas having access
to the sewer system She questioned the method of the
County recovering costs of installing lines to undeveloped
areas asking if a method of assessment should be used
Mr Henry von Oesen stated that he felt very few
inequities of this nature would occur explaining that the
developer would have the responsibility of installing a lift
station to the force main along the side of the road.
I
After discussion, it was the consensus of the Board to
have Engineering Director Hilton and staff to study methods
of recuperating costs involved when running lines to
undeveloped areas and report back to the District.
Chairman O'Shields closed the Public Hearing
stating that this hearing would be continued on the evening
of September 6, 1983, in order to give the general public
an opportunity to discuss this issue.
