RESOLUTION
OF THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
OF
NEW HANOVER COUNTY
WHEREAS, New Hanover County maintains Riverside Park for the enjoyment of the citizens of
New Hanover County' and
WHEREAS, the State of North Carolina has awarded a Coastal Management Beach Access
Grant in the amount of$ 17,625 to New Hanover County for improvements to Riverside Park;
and
WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners have provided matching funding
for this grant in the amount of$ 3,375 in funds, plus $ 2,500 of in-kind assistance;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the New Hanover County Board of
Commissioners, that New Hanover County does hereby agree to the terms and conditions of this
Grant and will fulfill all the requirements thereof

WHEREAS, nfier due ndvertisement, bids were received nnd publicly opened bv the Finance Department
at 3'00 p.m. on the 6th day of February 1996, at the County Administration Building, 320 Chestnut Street,
Wilmington, North Carolina, and the following bids were received for Cardiac Equipment for the Emergency
Medical Services Department, Bid # 96-0296
Southeastem Emergency Equipment Company (Lead Acid battery system)
Southeastem Emergency Equipment Company (Niead battery system)
Phvsio Control (Niead battery system)
Marquette Electronics, Inc. (Nicad battery system)

AND WHEREAS, afier review the EMS Department desires thc cardiac equipment to have a Nicad
battery system rather than n lead acid battery system;
AND WHEREAS, the Emergency Medical Services Director the Finance Director and thc Countv
Manager recommend thnt the contract be awardcd to Southcastcm Emcrgcncy Equipmcnt Company (Nicad
battery systcm) of Wake Forcst, North Carolina, the lowest rcsponsible biddcr, in the amount of One Hundred
Forty-five Thousand Five Hundred Forty-three Dollars and Twenty Cents ($145 543.20);
AND WHEREAS, equipment to be purchased is to be purchased through installment financing and fWlds
have bccn previously appropriatcd and arc now in Account No. 110-420-4200-5940 to cover payments for this
vear and will be in subsequent vear s budget,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of New Hanover
County that the contract for cardiac equipment for the Emergenev Medical Services Department, Bid # 96-0296
be awarded to Southeaslem Emergency Equipment Company (Niead battery system) in the amount of One
Hlmdred Forty-five 1110usand Five Hundred Forty-three Dollars and Twenty Cents ($145,543.20); and that the
Counlv is hereby authorized and directed to execute the contract, contract form to be approved by the County
Attorney

added to the Secondary Road System; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is of the opinion that the above
described road(s) should be added to the Secondary Road System, if the road(s)
meets minimum standards and criteria established by the Division of Highways of
the Department of Transportation for the addition of roads to the System

WHEREAS, Mercy Ships is a registered relief organization certified by the United States
Agency for International Developments; and
WHEREAS, Mercy Ships owns and operates three relief vessels that sail to areas of natural
disaster or chronic need; and
WHEREAS, since 1978 Mercy Ships has provided needed surgeries, dental care, medical
supplies, clothing, food, seeds, construction materials, and development assistance to over sixty port
districts worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the Caribbean Mercy, one of four Mercy Ships, will be visiting Wilmington
from March 21 through April 7, 1996; and
WHEREAS, New Hanover County desires to recognize and honor the humanitarian work
performed by Mercy Ships.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the New Hanover County Board of
Commissioners does resolve that the weeks of March 23 through April 7, 1996 be designated
Mercy Ships Weeks in New Hanover County
