Now all residents of New Hanover County may burn debris. Certain stipulations do still apply to all such instances. · Residents living within city limits are reminded 1hat they are still subject to any and all local outdoor burning regulations normally applicable in their locales. · Residents outside the city limits are still encouraged to use the County's hurricane debris removal system whenever possible, rather than burning, in order to maintain air quality. Melvin, Assistant to the County Manger , V- 0/ ~ V ~ (910)341-7184 (910)341-4027 County Relaxes Burning Restrictions -Effective Thursday, October 3, 1996, New Hanover County Board of Commissioners will permit burning of vegetative debris In the unincorporated areas of the County, with certain stipulations. The stipulations which have been Imposed are as follows. · Burning will only be allowed on properties with a minimum of three acres of contiguous property. · The fire must be no less than 250 feet from dwellings or businesses on adjacent property. · Burning will be allowed between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, Fnday, or Saturday. '. Burning must not create a nUisance for neighbors, pedestnans, or dnvers. · Daily restnctlons or prohibitions to open burning may be effected, when unfavorable weather conditions pose a risk of fire or health hazards. · Burning must still comply with State Fire Code and the Division of Forest Resources. Thus, burning permits must be obtained from the DiviSIon of Forest Resources or one of Its authorized agents. The State Fire Code requires that fires not be closer than 50 feet to any structure on your property, and must be attended at all times, With appropriate fire extingUisher available, A special telephone Information line has been established for Citizens to obtain InformatIon on burning regulations and daily restnctlons whIch may be appropnated due to weather conditions. SUPPLEMENT TO PROCLAMATION DECLARING A STATE OF EMERGENCY IN NEW HANOVER COUNTY WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners declared a State of Emergency pursuant to County Ordinance Article II, Section 6.7-16 and Chapter 166A of the North Carolina General Statutes, on September 4, 1996~ and WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners has determined that in the interest of public health and safety a curfew be established in New Hanover County~ NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT all persons in New Hanover County shall observe a curfew and remain in their houses or other shelter during the hours from 10:00 P.M., September 6, 1996, to 6:00 A.M. on September 7, 1996.
