HomeMy WebLinkAbout1995-02-06 RM Exhibits Jf- 4 RESOLUTION NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS REQUESTING FUNDING ASSISTANCE FROM NC DOT FOR INSTALLATION OF AN EMERGENCY-TRAFFIC SIGNAL FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLE ENTRANCE AND CROSSING- CAROLINA BEACH ROAD WHEREAS, the Myrtle Grove Volunteer Fire Department respectfully requested assistance from the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners and the Department of Emergency Management in addressing a significant hazard potential where their emergency vehicles enter and cross Carolina Beach Road, south of Monkey Junction and; WHEREAS, the Division of Highways' Traffic Engineering Branch have completed .an investigation into the feasibility of installing an Emergency-Traffic Signal at the intersection of US 421 (Carolina Beach Road) and the service road (formerly US421) south of Monkey Junction near the Fire Station and, WHEREAS, the Director of Emergency Management for New Hanover County, Dan Summers, has determined the NC Department of Transportation has some contingency funds which might be available to assist with this endeavor and, WHEREAS, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners upholds their commitment to provide the citizens of New Hanover County responsible safety hazard warning signal devices by soliciting the assistance of the Department of Transportation, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners requests the N. C Department of Transportation to assist in the provision of an emergency vehicle traffic control device along Carolina Beach Road, South of Monkey Junction. This the 6th day of February, 1995 NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS jJJ~ Robert G Greer, Chairman {SEAL } ~ 1..11II J-&C RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF NEW HANOVER COUNTY WHEREAS, after due advertisement, bids were received and publicly opened by the Finance Department at 3:00 p.m. on the 29th day of December, 1994, at the County Administration Building, 320 Chestnut Street, Wilmington, North Carolina, and the following bid was received for a Cooling Tower for the Property Management Department, Bid # 95-0187: Hoffman & Hoffman authorized dealer for EVAPCO, Inc. $51,762.00 AND WHEREAS, the bid received exceeds the amount of funds available for the purchase and as provided in G.S. 143-129 New Hanover County has negotiated with EVAPCO, Inc., the only responsible bidder, making reasonable changes in the specifications necessary to bring the contract price within funds available; AND WHEREAS, the Property Management Director, the Finance Director and the County Manager recommend that the contract be awarded to EVAPCO, Inc., a foreign corporation organized under the laws of the state of Maryland, the only responsible bidder, in the negotiated amount of Forty-eight Thousand Six Hundred Seventy Dollars ($48,670.00); AND WHEREAS, funds have been previously appropriated and are now in Account No. 110-410-4196-1000-3940 to cover this contract; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of New Hanover County that the contract for a Cooling Tower for the Property Management Department, Bid # 95-0187 be awarded to EVAPCO, Inc. in the amount of Forty-eight Thousand Six Hundred Seventy Dollars ($48,670.00); and that the County is hereby authorized and directed to execute the contract, contract form to be approved by the County Attorney. of February, 1995. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of the County of New Hanover that the Division of Highways is hereby requested to review the above described road(s), and to take over the road(s) for maintenance if they meet established standards and criteria. The City owns an 85.7% interest in the property and the County owns an interest equal to 14.3%. The City has been awarded a grant from the State of North Carolina to pursue gardening and beautification efforts on vacant lots which it owns and has identified the aforementioned site together with a City-owned tract adjacent thereto, as suitable for implementation of the grant-funded effort. The activities undertaken utilizing the grant funds will expose young people between the ages of 10 and 16 years to citizenship skills and service learning through community-based activities. The Board of Commissioners is requested to convey unto the City its 14.3% interest in and to the property identified in the attached Exhibit "A" in order to commence this activity in early February, 1995.
