Home My WebLink About1994-11-07 RM Exhibits ,cJ~ RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WHEREAS, Vision Cable Communications has entered into an agreement with Time Warner Cable to form the Time Warner Entertainment-Advance/Newhouse Partnership; and WHEREAS, Section 6-135 of the New Hanover County Code states that the Board of Commissioners must consent to the transfer of the franchise to the new venture; and WHEREAS, the Time Warner Entertainment-Advance/Newhouse Partnership shall continue to provide service on all the same terms and conditions as set forth in the New Hanover County Code, existing franchise agreement, and federal laws, rules, and regulation. NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of County Commissioners that the initial franchise grantee, Vision Cable, now be designated II TWE-ANP II , and that all franchise rights, duties, and obligations be transferred to said "TWE-ANP" or subsequently to a partner thereof. WHEREAS, nearly 14 mllhon Americans, 400,000 North Carohnlans, and between 3,635 and 5,405 residents of New Hanvoer County have diabetes, an Incurable dIsease that ImpairS the body's ablllty to convert sugar Into energy; and WHEREAS, diabetes IS the fourth leading cause of death by dIsease In the United states; and WHEREAS, In thIS year alone, more than 650,000 Americans WIll contract the dIsease and 160,000 wlll dle from It, including a dIsproportIOnate number of HIspaniC Americans, African Americans, and NatIve Americans; and WHEREAS, people WIth diabetes have a hIgh risk of develOPing serIOus comphcatlOns, such as blindness, kIdney dIsease, heart attack and stroke; and WHEREAS, an Increase In community awareness of diabetes, new research findings, and the American Diabetes ASSOCiatIOn, may stImulate pubhc actIOn In increasing research toward a cure, and inSpIre people to take better control of theIr dIsease and hve a healthIer life; let it THEREFORE BE RESOL VED, the New Hanover County CommISSIOners hereby proclaim the month of November 1994 to be National Diabetes Month In New Hanover County and that the Chairman of the County CommISSIOn IS authOrized and requested to Issue a proclamation asking that every CItIzen partICIpate in efforts that support research to end diabetes and improve the hves of all those who have thIS dIsease.
