1993-06-21 RM Exhibits NEW HANOVER COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, hurricanes are common weather occurrences during August, September and October, endangering coastal New Hanover County, and WHEREAS, on August 24, 1992, Hurricane Andrew devastated a 116 square mile area of Dade County Florida, killing 40 people and causing over 20 billion dollars in damage which changed the lives of Floridians in incalculable ways. WHEREAS, on September 21-22, 1989, Hurricane Hugo swept through South and North Carolina, killing two people and leaving in its path more than one billion dollars in damaged property and forest. Hugo did not make landfall on the North Carolina coast, but still caused more destruction than any storm in the State's history. WHEREAS, damages from Hurricane Diana in 1984 and Hurricane Gloria in 1985 totaled 74.2 million dollars, but were minor compared to Hurricane Hazel, the most destructive storm ever to hi~ the New Hanover County coast. WHEREAS, a hurricane safety awareness campaign has been developed in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of Crime Control and Public Safety's Division of Emergency Management, the National Weather Service, and the New Hanover County Department of Emergency Management to help citizens acquire a knowledge of hurricane safety and preparedness guidelines. NOW, THEREFORE, the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners proclaims the week of July 4 through July 10, 1993 as HURRICANE AWARENESS WEEK in New Hanover County and encourages all citizens to assume personal responsibility by availing themselves of hurricane safety information and be prepared to protect property and save lives. Greer Chairman .," " .<t RESOLUTION OF THE NEW HANOVER COUNTY COMMISSIONERS AUTHORIZING CONVEYANCE OF JOINTLY OWNED PROPERTY LOCATED AT 208 NORTH 10TH STREET CITY OF WILMINGTON LEGISLATIVE PURPOSE/INTENT: The County is authorized by G.S. 160A-279 to convey real property to nonprofit corporations to carry out public purposes. The County is authorized by G.S. 160A-456 and 157-9 to engage in programs to provide lower and moderate income housing. Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity has requested the conveyance of the jointly owned property at 208 North 10th Street for the purpose of constructing a residential dwelling for occupancy by a low-income family. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE WIIkiINGTON CITY COUNCIL THAT: 1. The County is hereby authorized to convey the property located at 208 North 10th Street to Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity at no cost. 2. The transfer shall not be consummated until ten days after the publication of a notice of the adoption of this resolution. 3. The conveyance shall be subject to the utilization of the property for the purpose of constructing a dwelling for low and moderate income residents.
