1989-06-26 Water & Sewer 223 I MINUTES OF THE NEW HANOVER COUNTY WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT ~GULAK ~~T~~G, ~u~~ 26. 1989 ASSEMBLY The Board of District Commissioners of the New Hanov r County Water and Sewer District held a Regular Meeting on Monda June 26, 1989, at 4:04 o'clock P.M. in the General Assembly Ro m of the New Hanover County Courthouse, 24 North Third Stree Wilmington, North Carolina. Members present were: District Commissioners E. L. Mathew, Jr; Nolan O'Neal; Fred Retchin; Vice-Chairman, W. Albert Corbet, Jr.; Chairman Jonathan Barfield, Sr.; County Manager, G. Fel x Cooper; County Attorney, Robert W. Pope; and Clerk to t e District Board, Lucie F. Harrell. Chairman Barfield called the meeting to order. APPROVAL OF MINUTES District Commissioner Retchin MOVED, SECONDED by Distri t Commissioner O'Neal to approve the minutes of the Special Meeti g of June 5, 1989, as presented. No one commented. POSTPONEMENT OF REQUEST BY THE CITY OF WILMINGTON FOR FUNDI G PARTICIPATION IN UPGRADING OF THE NORTHSIDE WASTEWATER TREA PLANT Chairman Barfield presented background information on t e request stating the City has requested a commitment of $435,0 0 for upgrading the Northside Wastewater Treatment Plant. e stated the County has already committed $200,000 of funding f r the project; therefore, the City would like an addition 1 commitment of $235,000. County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, stated after meeting wi h the City Engineer, the $200,000 commitment was not included 'n the $435,000 now being requested. Consensus: After discussion of a misunderstanding of the fundi g commitment, it was the consensus of the District Board to del y action on this request. I DENIAL OF SEWER VARIANCE REQUEST BY MR. JAMES JONES County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, stated Mr. & Mrs. Jam s Jones are planning to construct a home on a lot adjacent 0 Hewlett's Creek. The lot is separated from the sewer line alo g Greenville Loop Road by another lot with the Jones' having a 2 foot easement access to Greenville Loop Road. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIE NANIMOUSLY. PROVAL OF SEWER EXEMPTION FOR MINOR SUBDIVISION - MR. JOHN L UGLAS County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, stated Mr. John L. Dougla s in the process of developing a two lot subdivision on the wes ide and south end of Myrtle Grove Sound Road and has requeste n exemption of sewer construction requirements as listed in th ewer Ordinance. Engineer Blanchard recommended granting th ariance since the subdivision is not in an active area of th ewer System. otion: After discussion, Vice-Chairman Corbett MOVED, SECONDE Y District Commissioner Retchin to grant an exemption to th ewer construction requirements subject to the deed stating tha he owner of Lot 2 will be required to connect to the system a o cost to the Water and Sewer District when the sewer become vailable to the parent parcel of land. BETTY ROBB OF BERMAN PROPERTIES FO ONSTRUCTION OF 435 FEET OF THE SEWER LINE County Engineer, Wyatt Blanchard, stated Mrs. Betty Robb 0 erman Properties, the developer for Landsdowne Extension, ha equested permission to construct and be reimbursed for 435 fee f the District sewer for lots now being developed. The cos ubmitted by the contractor of Berman Properties is $9,832. Th ost to construct the line under the District's present contrac nit price would be $11,367; therefore, authorizing constructio f the line by Berman Properties would save the Water and Sewe istrict $1,535. otion: District Commissioner Retchin MOVED, istrict Commissioner Mathews to allow Berman onstruct the section of the sewer line as eimbursement from the District in an amount 9,832.
