NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners approves of adopting the official park name as Hanover Pines Nature Park. BUILDING SAFETY MONTH–MAY 2021 1 I 1 PROCLAMATION ! 1 1 WHEREAS, New Hanover County is committed to recognizing our growth and strength depends on the safety and 1 economic value of the homes,buildings,and infrastructure that serve our citizens,both in everyday life and in times of natural disaster;and i 4 iWHEREAS, we achieve confidence in the resilience of these buildings that make up our community through the I devotion of building safety and fire prevention officials, architects, engineers, builders, tradespeople, design 1 professionals,laborers,and others in the construction industry;as vigilant guardians they work year-round to ensure 1 the safe construction of buildings;and 1 i 1 WHEREAS, most of these guardians are dedicated members of the International Code Council (ICC), a U.S. based t i 1 organization as the national,voluntary consensus codes and standards developing organization that brings together local,state,and federal officials who are experts in the building environment to create and implement the highest- quality codes to protect us in the buildings where we live, learn, work, worship, play, and 2020 presented a i heightened awareness of working safely from home,with some employers adopting that model for the future;and I I 1 WHEREAS, our nation and state benefit economically and technologically from using the International Codes° as I developed through a national, voluntary consensus codes process; New Hanover County avoids the high cost and I complexity of developing and maintaining these codes,which are the most widely adopted building safety and fire 1 prevention codes in the world;these modern codes include safeguards to protect the public from natural disasters such as hurricanes,snowstorms,tornadoes,wildland fires,floods and earthquakes;and 1 i WHEREAS,the International Code Council(ICC)sponsors the Building Safety Month to remind the public about the critical role of our communities' largely unknown guardians of public safety—our local code compliance officials— who assure us of safe, sustainable, energy-efficient and livable buildings that are essential to our economy and welfare;and i WHEREAS,"Prevent,Prepare,Protect.Building Codes Save,"the theme for Building Safety Month 2021,encourages 1 1 all Americans to raise awareness of the importance of safe and resilient construction; fire prevention; disaster 1 mitigation; energy conservation; water safety; training the next generation, and new technologies in the construction industry;and I1 WHEREAS,each year, in observance of Building Safety Month, people all over the world are asked to consider the commitment to improve building safety, resilience, and economic investment at home and in the community, and i I to acknowledge the essential service provided to all of us by local and state building departments,fire prevention I bureaus,and federal agencies in protecting lives and property. z , i NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT PROCLAIMED by the New Hanover County Board of Commissioners that May 2021 will be recognized as"Building Safety Month"in New Hanover County. ; ADOPTED this the 17th day of May,2021. The funds have to be spent by June 30,2021. The SRC has a waiting list,so these funds will help provide services to those on the waiting list and provide additional respite services to those who exhausted services earlier in the fiscal year. There is no county match required. These funds must be used to supplement existing county funds for program activities and may not replace county funds that have been appropriated for the same purpose.
