Adjournment NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING MAY 5, 2021 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at 8:00am via Microsoft Teams. Present: Nicholas Leger, presiding; Joe Irrera, , Steve Morrissey, Malik Shabazz. Absent. John Hinnant and Pete Wildeboer. Guest: Rex Buford (Battle Park Group), Chris Vargo (Winter Park Optimist Club). Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Sheryl Kelly, Janine Powell, and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MIINUTES The meeting was called to order by Nick Leger who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the April meeting. The following motion was presented: MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Steve Morrissey that the minutes of the April 7th meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Voice of the Custome r. Chris Vargo of Winter Park Optimist Club shared information regarding the club and the youth they serve. The organization has been in existence since 1954 and has always been located at Long Leaf Park. They are a baseball and softball club which serves approximately 1,000 youth each year. They are a fee-based organization; however, they donate funds to various organizations each year. 2. Top of Mind. Malik Shabazz shared that Freedom School is coming up in July. He will share further information at Steve Morrissey asked how the budget was going and if there were th any updates. The first budget presentation is coming up on May 17 and we should have good visibility of the upcoming budget at that time. Tara provided updates on several projects. The Middle Sound Loop Trail project is 99% complete. The walkthrough with DOT in a couple of weeks. Working with the YMCA to get the Echo Farms pool and anticipate its opening on Memorial Day weekend. We are seeing high numbers at the parks. Battle Park (Hanov Additionally, tennis court and pickleball resurfacing has been included in the operating budget request. nd 3. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 2. 4. Adjournment. There were no additional items to discuss. The following motion to adjourn was presented: MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Joe Irrera that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 8:33am.
