Adjournment NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING JUNE 2, 2021 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 8:00am at the Airlie Cottage. Present: John Hinnant (Chair), Joe Irrera, Steve Morrissey and Pete Wildeboer. Absent: Guest: Rex Buford and Bonnie Dukes (Intern). Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Sheryl Kelly and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by John Hinnant who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the th May 5 meeting. The following motion was presented: MOTION: Steve Morrissey MOVED; SECONDED by Joe Irrera, that the minutes of the April 7th meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 1. Top of Mind Topics. The question was posed as to the timeline for Hanover Pines Nature Park (Battle Park). Tara shared that the project will be put out for bid once the new fiscal year starts in July. 2. Director/Staff Q&A. Tara provided an overview of the upcoming budget for FY 21-22. The following projects are included in the budget: Northern Regional Park Phase II Design, Smith Creek Park Phase IIA design (passive park), Ogden Bike Lane Connector and the S. College/N. College Trails. A new Veterans Park playground will be installed, and the Long Leaf tennis courts will be resurfaced with new lighting added as well. (Not included was the pickleball resurfacing at Arrowhead.) Also asked to clean up the language and make it more consistent.) Additionally, on every survey, people are asking for bike and pedestrian trails. Other parks happenings are as follows: Snows Cut Park will be closed as it is a liability. Working to get the pool open at Echo Farms and hope to have it ready this weekend. There is the potential for another park preserve at Futch Creek. There is a new neighborhood being constructed adjacent to the parcel that offers us access to the site. We may be able to accomplish this in the next year or so. (Note: Board member Steve Morrissey shared his disappointment that the pickleball courts were not included as part of the budget and recommended that the county take another look at it. With the growth of the county, including the number of apartments, the demand will only get higher.) th 3. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, July 7. 4. Adjournment. There were no additional items to discuss. The meeting adjourned at 9:01am.
