REGULAR MEETING APRIL 6, 2022
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at the Airlie
Cottage.
Present: John Hinnant (presiding), Malik Shabazz.
Absent: Nicholas Leger and Pete Wildeboer.
Guests: Rex Buford and Brooks Robinson of Cape Fear Rugby.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, and Jodi Rich.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by John Hinnant who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the
March meeting. The following motion was presented:

MOTION: MOVED; SECONDED by Joe Irrera, that the minutes of the March 2
meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1. Voice of the Customer. We were joined by Brooks Robinson who shared information regarding Cape
Fear Rugby. They have their own 10-acre field off Chestnut Street which was purchased back in the
90s. The group also hosts tournaments in the area with the next one taking place at Ogden Park
during the last weekend in June.

2. Top of Mind Topics. The budget presentation will take place on May 2. The request for funding to
convert tennis courts to pickle ball courts is on the budget again this year. The gardens are ready for
the upcoming garden party.
3. Director/Staff Q&A. Tara reported that she is still waiting to get final DOT permit for Hanover Pines.

The Airlie concert series will begin on Friday, June 1. The most recent County free day at Airlie was
heavily attended.
4. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 4th.
5. Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 8:51am.
