REGULAR MEETING MAY 4, 2022
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, May 4, 2022, at the Airlie
Cottage.
Present: John Hinnant (presiding), Nicholas Leger, Pete Wildeboer.
Absent: Joe Irrera,
Guests: Rex Buford and Lee Spooner of the YMCA.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, and Jodi Rich.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by John Hinnant who asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the

April 6 meeting. The following motion was presented:

MOTION: Nicholas Leger MOVED; SECONDED by Pete Wildeboer, that the minutes of the April 6
meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1.
Voice of the Customer. We were joined by Lee Spooner, Director of Athletics, of the YMCA who
shared information regarding the Y and its programs. Lee oversees
programming for 3500 active
participants such as soccer, flag football, basketball, Girls on the Run, stride, swimming, and dance.
They have also partnered with New Hanover County schools and the have 18 on-site after school
locations at every elementary school in the county. The park they use the most is Ogden which is used
for soccer and flag football for 12 weeks in the spring and 12 weeks in the fall. Long Leaf Park is used
as well.

Top of Mind Topics. John Hinnant shared that he was at Trails End and noticed some parking tickets.
Asked about how many vehicles/trailers can park there. Tara shared that it depends on how people
park. (Possibly around 30.)
3.Director/Staff Q&A. Tara reported that the NDOT driveway permit was finally received for Hanover
Pines Park. Hope to get the bid out next week. Tennis court conversion to pickleball courts at
Arrowhead Park are still in the budget right now.

4. Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, June 1.
