Other Business: All Board Members Next Meeting: August 18, 2022 AIRLIE GARDENS FOUNDATION BOARD PAGE 1 REGULAR MEETING MAY 19, 2022 ASSEMBLY th The Airlie Gardens Foundation Board met in Regular session at the Airlie Cottage on Thursday, May 19, 2022, at 8:15 a.m. Present: Mark Tyler, Eric Blaesing, Coo Hocker, Bonnie Nelson, Commissioner Rob Zapple. Via Teams: Teddy Davis, Charlie Rivenbark, Ted Davis, Jr., Sandra Ray. Absent: Shane Johnson and Hank Estep. Staff: Scott Childs, Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Julie Holtz, Andy Johnson, Rebecca Pearce (via Teams), and Janine Powell. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES. Mark Tyler called the meeting to order. He then asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of the April meeting. There were none and the following motion was presented: st MOTION: Eric Blaesing MOVED; SECONDED by Bonnie Nelson, that the minutes of the April 21 meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Mark deferred his report to Tara who will provide an overview of the 2021-2022 budget. th 2. T Bonnie Nelson reviewed the financials for month ending April 30. Total liabilities and equity were $8,093,646. YTD, Revenues for Gate, Membership, Merchandise, Environmental Education, Wedding & Events, and Exhibit continue to be higher than the previous two years. The month of March set a record for membership revenue. April also saw the highest revenue for the gift shop. Environmental education programs, portraits and weddings are in full swing. The month of April also saw 568,696 unrealized losses on investments. Bonnie noted that we will see seasonal changes and that is to be expected. She complimented staff for maintaining costs and keeping operating expenses low. Discussion followed about pre-COVID numbers and trends for the future. Bonnie noted that Gate was $318,476 YTD which puts that line item on track to be the strongest in our history. Eric asked what percent of gate revenue was local vs. out-of-area. Staff will have those numbers at the June meeting. 3. Director/Operations Report. Tara presented the 2021-2022 budget. Discussion followed on growth areas and bigger ticket items like the building and pier. The following motion was presented: MOTION: Rob Zapple MOVED; SECONDED by Eric Blaesing that the 2022-2023 be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Andy Johnson presented the Capital Improvement Plan for the garden. Discussion followed and the Board noted this was a great roadmap. No motion needed. 4. Development Report. Janine Powell reported that NC Land & Water Fund Board visited the gardens as part of their annual meeting, and it went very well. She also noted that we have implemented new PCI compliant credit card swipe machines and they are already proving successful in creating efficiencies for transactions. Discussion followed and no action was taken 6. Next Meeting. The next board meeting will take place at the Airlie Cottage on Thursday, June 16th. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 9:40am.
