REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 7, 2022
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at the Airlie
Cottage.
Present: John Hinnant (presiding), Ryan Bisplinghoff, Lindy Ford, Carol Hunter, Malik Shabazz, Gayle Tabor.
Excused: Pete Wildeboer.
Guests: Mike Clancy and Chris Pinket, Wilmington Senior Softball Association
Staff: Lucas Barnes, Scott Childs, Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious and Andy Johnson.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Tara Duckworth who asked everyone to introduce themselves since we
had four new board members. Once John Hinnant arrived, he asked for a motion to approve the minutes of

the June 1 meeting. The following motion was presented:

MOTION: John Hinnant MOVED; SECONDED by Malik Shabazz, that the minutes of the June 1 meeting be
approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1.Voice of the Customer. Mike Clancy, Wilmington Senior Softball Commissioner, provided an overview of
the organization which was formed in 1995 by Phil Rose along with assistance by Nancy Middlesworth.
They currently have 3 divisions consisting of more than 175 players. There are twelve teams that take the
field every Tuesday and Thursday morning during the regular season for double headers. WSSA has won
several medals in state senior games and has also won two national senior game titles. There motto is:

County provides free playing fields at Ogden Park for the league.
2.Top of Mind Topics. John Hinnant asked how things were going at Echo Farms. Tara shared that things are
going well. We were fully staffed during the season. There are several programs taking place which are
well attended. In addition, we have the cleanest pool according to the health department.
3.Director/Staff Q&A. Tara provided an overview of the Parks & Gardens department.

4.Next Meeting. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 5.
5.Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 9:35am.
