Re: Cape Fear Habitat Workforce Housing Services Program Proposal
Dear Workforce Housing Services Review Panel,
I am writing in support of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity and the New Haven Place Development. The
property off Castle Hayne Road will add another thirty-five affordable homes to our community. For
over 35 years, Habitat has been working to provide affordable housing to those in our community
through its new construction and recycle programs, as well as extensive homeowner education that
helps ensure that families can maintain and enjoy the stability of their homes far into the future.
Habitat has a proven and sustainable funding model that includes grants, donations, income from three
area ReStores and mortgage payments from homeowners that are recycled directly back into the
program. It also has a dynamic and progressive management team that continues to find innovative
ways to address the growing affordable housing crisis in our community.
For more than 10 years, Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center has partnered with and
supported Cape Fear Habitat. The affordable housing opportunities that Habitat provides to individuals
and families is a critical underpinning for the health and vitality of our entire community. Novant Health
looks forward to continuing our partnership with Habitat for Humanity and recommend that Cape Fear
Habitat be considered for full funding of its Workforce Housing request. If you require any additional
information, please feel free to contact me via email at jgijames@novanthealth.org.
Sincerely,

To Whom it May Concern,
I am deeply honored to be writing a letter in support of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity. I serve as the pastor of Trinity UMC Wilmington, and we have been involved with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity on multiple projects to build affordable homes in New Hanover County. One home that we partnered with Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity was a house near our church for Renee Perez, who works for the public school system. Renee is a hardworking and important member of our community. Without her home from Habitat for Humanity, affordable housing may not have been available to Renee. As a church, we fell in love with Renee in getting to know her, and we have fallen in love with this process towards homeownership that Habitat for Humanity provides. Habitat for Humanity helps to ensure that valuable members of our community, like Renee, can live in our community.
The process of raising funds and building the homes that we have been involved with have been extremely well organized and well planned. Building a home has complexities that felt overwhelming before our first build. However, with the organization and the well planned efforts, there was something for everyone in building a home. Everyone had a part that was within their skill set and comfort zone. Because of this, it was a powerful experience to see the whole community come together to build a home.
I strongly support the efforts of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity, and believe that this is an essential ministry for the wellbeing of our community in New Hanover County. I cannot think of a better organization to support that is making a difference for people who are in need of an affordable home. I hope that you will consider supporting Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity in this project in Castle Hayne. Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
