The Library Advisory Board met in Regular Session on Thursday, February 15th at 1:30 pm at the
Main Library, 201 Chestnut Street.

Chair Patricia Lawler convened the meeting at 1:32 pm.
Public Comment
No public comments.
Agenda Review
No changes.
Approval of Previous Minutes
The minutes from the last board meeting on January 18, 2024, were sent to the board prior to
the meeting for review.
Motion: Shaun Assael MOVED, SECONDED by Liz Carbone, to accept the minutes of the
1/18/24 meeting as written. Upon vote, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

None received.
Friends of the Library
Tom Brimberry was unable to attend today’s meeting. He submitted the following statement via email.
Friends of the Library has been meeting in the new year and is excited about library activities in 2024.
The Board conducted its preview night at the NHCPL book sale for Friends members and had over 100
new members join or renew their membership.
Our meetings in January and February focused on finalizing the budget, on boarding four new board
members and establishing a committee to plan programs and activities in the new year.
Library Foundation
Dana reports the Foundation accepted two new members and elected a new Treasurer.
Director’s Report
• Dana reported on the following:
• Groundbreaking for Project Grace will be tomorrow at 12:30.
• Clearing on the Northchase lot begins soon. After clearing, the lot will be surcharged
(adding more dirt). Groundbreaking is expected this Summer.
• Kipp Register at the Pleasure Island library will be retiring on Monday 2/19/24. We are
interviewing for her position.
• Interviews are underway for a new library supervisor at Pine Valley.
• Northeast just hired a new Casual Part Time employee for the Children’s dept.
• The Read Across the County book selected is “Even as We Breathe” by Annette
Saunooke Clapsaddle.

New Business
Library Strategic Plan
The library has completed work on their new strategic plan. This will be presented to all library
staff next Friday. The five-year plan showcases a new Vision & Mission for the library and is in
line with the County’s new strategic plan. Dana presented the three focus areas and showed
how our plan ties back to the County’s Plan.
Database Spotlight
Jimi Rider show the board how to access and use the LearningExpress Library database.
LearningExpress Library features online tutorials, practice tests, and e-books to help patrons of
all ages. It offers job search and workplace skills improvement, skill building in reading, writing,
math, and basic science, career certification and licensure exam prep, college and grad school
entrance test prep, GED® test prep, and more.
