REGULAR MEETING MARCH 6, 2024
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Wednesday, March 6, 2023, at the Airlie
Cottage. There was not a quorum.
Present: John Hinnant éltjtrê, Caleb Rash, and Carol Hunter.
Gayle Tabor, Lindy Ford, and Ryan Blisplinghoff provided notice.
Staff: Andy Johnson, Latashia Smith, and Tanya Gurganious
Since a quorum was not present, no action was taken. A summary of discussion is below.
Hanover Pines ribbon cutting is set for Monday, March 18, 2024. Still getting landscaping
installed, along with signs and benches. Hanover Pines is a passive park with the largest dog
park.
Northern Regional Park is under design. Waiting for stormwater permits. Had to resubmit
stormwater permit. Instead of low density, North Carolina DEQ is requiring high density. Once
permits are resubmitted, it could take at least 90 days. This is for the two additional athletic
fields, parking lot, and a bike pump track. It will be June or July before we get the final
stormwater permit approval. It could be put out for bid in the fall of this year.
Waiting on stormwater permit for Smith Creek Park Phase 2. This had to be resubmitted as well
and will take at least 90 days. Design is 95% complete. Hoping to put out to bid by early
summer. This will be a passive park. It has a restroom, shelter, and trails. There will be a 1-mile
paved trail and existing sand trails.
Ogden playground was replaced. Toddler components will be added to the playground in the
coming months.
Echo Farms is in design for up to 5 additional clay courts. Architect working out details with
stormwater permitting. These 4 or 5 courts will go behind existing courts.
Working with Andrews Consulting on Trails End Pier. Final design will be complete by June or
July.
Long Leaf Park bridge replacement design will be complete by early summer.
