The Library Advisory Board met in Regular Session on Thursday, April 18th at 1:30 pm at the Pine
Valley Library – 3802 S. College Rd.

Chair Patricia Lawler convened the meeting at 1:30 pm.
Public Comment
No public comments.
Agenda Review
No changes.
Approval of Previous Minutes
The minutes from the last board meeting on March 21, 2024, were sent to the board prior to
the meeting for review.
Motion: Shaun Assael MOVED, SECONDED by Lynn Kozik, to accept the minutes of the 3/31/24
meeting as written. Upon vote, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Correspondence
None received.
Friends of the Library
Tom Brimberry reported the following:
• The FOL transferred funds to the library for Read Across the County.
• We’ve subscribed to Book Page, is a monthly reading recommendation magazine. 200 copies
will be available to all library sites.
• Barbara Honchell (FOL past Pres.) is working to expand the Story Walk to the New Hanover Pines
Nature Walk.
• Three book clubs are active. Last Saturday they met at NE and discussed “The Women’s Hour”
by Elaine Weiss.
• Williston Middle School’s outstanding students were recognized this week with Rotary.
Library Foundation
The board meets quarterly. Their next meeting is in May.
Director’s Report
Dana submitted the following report:
Projects
• Project Grace – Ground preparation is making a lot of progress. The library plans to
open in the Fall of 2025, and the Museum will open 6 months later. A Press Release will
be coming out soon.
• Northchase – Construction is out for bid. There will be a groundbreaking this summer.
Staff
• Vacancies
o Library Assistant – Main Library Circulation (opening due to promotion)
• New Hires
o Sara Sleigh - Library Associate at Northeast (handles Book Sale)
o Andy Farley - Library Associate – CORE Program

New Business
Strategic Plan FY 2024 3rd Quarter
Dana Conners presented the board with a copy of the 3rd Quarter update. All 14 Targets were
discussed.
Database Spotlight
Pine Valley Branch Mgr., Stacia McGourty presented Tutor.com to the Board.
Tutor.com
Free homework help from a live, online, qualified tutor is available 9:00am to 12:00am EST for K-12 and
college students as well as adult learners. Receive help in math, science, English, social studies, ESL,
computer literacy, and college placement exams. Tutors provide essay and resume feedback with a
drop-off service. Take assessment quizzes to develop and practice your skills in a variety of subjects.
