HomeMy WebLinkAboutCFCLT Staff ResumePAUL J STAVOVY, MPA Wilmington, NC 28403 ● (910)619-1074 ● paul@foreverplaces.org OBJECTIVE As the Executive Director of Cape Fear Community Land Trust, a City Appointee to the Workforce Housing Advisory Committee, a member of the North Carolina Leadership Forum on Housing, and past-Chair of the Cape Fear Housing Coalition, Paul J Stavovy is deeply immersed in the affordable housing sector in Wilmington, NC. His master's degree in Public Administration (focusing on urban policy and planning), a lifetime of experience in the building profession, and strong nonprofit management experie nce, make Paul an asset to the Wilmington housing scene. As the construction manager for New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity in the immediate years following Hurricane Katrina, Paul built over 200 homes in the New Orleans area with thousands of dedicated volunteers. As a remodeling professional, and owner of Classic Craftsmen LLC, Paul has amassed decades of design, building, remodeling, and project management experience, while his graduate education provided in -depth knowledge of urban policy, planning, land use law, sustainability, and housing policy. Paul’s goal is to use his practical experience in both the public & private sector, coupled with his education and training, to have a positive impact on the housing sector, and the community as a whol e. Paul Stavovy is a critical thinker who mixes his eternal optimism with the belief that all things can be solved with the right collaboration and willingness to put in the hours to make it happen. As executive director, my responsibilities include all planning, management, outreach, fundraising, and all property acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, and management. OWNER/BUILDER/DESIGNER JANUARY 2011 – PRESENT Classic Craftsmen, LLC Wilmington, NC Owner of a high-end renovation firm focusing on artisan work, custom remodels, fine furniture and cabinetry, quality upgrades, and neighborhood revitalization. My duties include all management, permitting, planning, purchasing, building, and design. RESEARCH ASSISTANT JANUARY 2008 – MAY2008 Urban Land Institute (ULI) Charleston, SC Responsible, as a member of a sustainable leadership collective, for assisting two towns in rural South Carolina with sustain able development initiatives. The group held Technical Assistance Panels to highlight recommendations for growth. HOUSE LEADER FOR JIMMY AND ROSALYN CARTER WORK PROJECT (JRCWP) MAY 2008 New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity New Orleans, LA Responsible for managing four Construction Supervisors and 20 -30 volunteers in building a house from the ground up in one week. We were successful due to great leadership, wonderful volunteers, and passionate homeowners. This one home contributed to hundreds built in the Gulf Coast as a part of JRCWP’08, and was featured on national TV. CONSTRUCTION MANAGER JUNE 2006-AUGUST 2007 New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity New Orleans, LA Responsible for running all construction in the greater New Orleans area (building 200+ houses a year). Direct supervisor of six superintendents, thirty house leaders, 50 AmeriCorps members, & 600 volunteers a day, all while keeping projects on schedule, training staff, and ensuring favorable volunteer experiences. The focus of this job was managing a young and inexperienced staff and training them to be effective leaders, all while keeping a large construction company running well. CARPENTER/CREW LEADER JANUARY 2006-MAY 2006 Myriam Enterprises Keystone, CO Lead carpenter for an elite custom homebuilder in Summit County Colorado (building multi -million dollar, log vacation homes). Responsible for leading a small crew through daily activities from framing to finish carpentry. PROJECT MANAGER JUNE 2005-JANUARY 2006 Loft Dweller Design Denver, CO Designer, builder, and manager of loft apartment renovations in downtown Denver. SUPERINTENDENT MAY 1993-MAY 2005 Mesa Wood Ltd. Washington, PA Began working in the summers through high school and college with my family business as a carpenter/laborer, progressing up through foreman to superintendent. Duties included: subcontractor relations, scheduling, estimating, doing lumber takeoffs, ordering, editing blueprints, design work, leading crews, and supervising the on -site construction of high end custom homes.
