WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Janine welcomed everyone in attendance and called the meeting to order. She introduced the
new board member Hillary Stevens and asked her to tell the board about herself. The board
members individually introduced themselves to Hillary. Janine turned the meeting over to Mark
Ihnat. Mark asked if there were any board members that provided notice of their absence. No
board members had provided notice. Mark asked if everyone had a chance to review the minutes
and asked if there were any changes. Dane Scalise noticed that the first line of the minutes cited
the previous board meeting date and it should have been June. Susanne and Nivine noticed their
first names were spelled incorrectly and wanted to note that it should be changed. Rex was
marked absent instead of excused. That change was also noted. The following motion was made:
MOTION: Susanne Werner MOVED; Sean Olds SECONDED, to approve the June minutes as
amended and corrected. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.

trees will come from Penderlea Farms and are descendants of the Airlie Oak. The other
grant is through the Cape Fear Garden Club Beautification endowment. This grant will be
used to plant more trees at Smith Creek Park to create a canopy that will provide shade.

goal is to be able to travel seamlessly throughout the city of Wilmington into New Hanover
County. This will get more cars off the road and give people alternate safe passages.
Smith Creek Phase 2 and Northern Regional Park are still in the stormwater permitting
phase.
Tanya gave an update on Echo Farms. The 5 additional tennis courts are still in the
permitting phase. She has seen an influx of people coming to Echo Farms since Holly Tree
has closed.
Old Business/New Business. Mark asked if the next Food Truck Rodeo had been scheduled.
Janine will come up with a date. It is usually held in April at Ogden Park. She mentioned to
position and help with
coordinating the vendors. Susanne volunteered to help. Dave volunteered as her second.
Dane Scalise wanted to highlight that in the last budget, the county created a new position
called a Sustainability Manager and there is some work in progress about what all that
position will accomplish. The general goal is to try and expand green space, preserve
territory in our community, and help with the flooding concerns. He would love to see
some of our parks expanded in the county and hoped this individual might be able to help
with that.
Mark recalled that in the previous minutes, it stated that the board should elect a
nominating committee and wanted to know what positions were available. Janine
expressed the biggest need right now is for a president. Dana Lingenfelser nominated
herself to be the president. Janine made a motion for the Dana Lingenfelser to be
president, Mark Ihnat to remain vice president, and Sean Olds to remain as treasurer.
Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
