Adjournment Next meeting: January 21, 2025 NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS CONSERVANCY BOARD PAGE 2 REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at 5:30 pm at the Airlie Cottage. Present: Dana Lingenfelser, Monty Hobbs, Cassidy Santiguida, Hillary Stevens, Sean Olds, Dave Ellegood, Dane Scalise, Mark Ihnat, and Susanne Werner Excused: Nivine Richie and Rex Burford Staff: Tanya Gurganious, Janine Powell, and Latashia Smith WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES Dana Lingenfelser welcomed everyone in attendance and called the meeting to order. She asked if everyone had a chance to review the minutes and asked if there were any changes. Mark noticed the minutes reflected that Dana nominated herself. The minutes should show that he nominated her. The following motion was made: MOTION: Sean Olds MOVED; Mark Ihnat SECONDED, to approve the August minutes as corrected. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Financial Report. Contributions = August: $100 (Board Contribution) Interest: $ 5.25 Total income of $105.25 Expenses: August: $25 (Click & Pledge monthly fee) $5.25 (Click & Pledge Fees-online banking) Total Expense: $30.25 Net Income for August - $75.00 Staff Report. Janine reported that she submitted taxes to the IRS and they were accepted. The next step is to do paperwork for North Carolina Secretary of State, the Charitable Solicitation License section. The Conservancy does not raise enough money to have to buy a license but must still fill out the paperwork to be exempt. NHC Parks and Gardens was chosen for a grant from the Cape Fear Garden Club Beatification Endowment for $6,000 to plant trees at Smith Creek Park. It is an opportunity for the board to participate. Still waiting to hear from Garden Tour Disbursements grant to plant 10 live oaks at Kings Grant Park. NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS CONSERVANCY BOARD PAGE 3 REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 Parks was invited to submit the full application to the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning Organization for the South College Road trail program. It is a 3.8-million-dollar grant. WMPO is also providing funds for the Middle Sound Loop trail to connect Red Cedar Road to Market Street up to Mendenhall. Met with Leadership Wilmington about a pruning project at Smith Creek Park. Each year Leadership Wilmington chooses a non-profit to work with. Food Truck Rodeo 2025 date is April 27, 2024. Kayak launch at Smith Creek Park will be replaced. Trails End pier is being replaced. Old Business/New Business. New board member Monty Hobbs informed the board that he is Meta certified and is willing to help with social media, Facebook and Instagram. Cape Fear SORBA thanked Parks and Gardens for the rocks and clay. Dana suggested a more hands on meeting for the next two meetings. The next meeting will be a Pinecone pick up at Long Leaf Park. There will be a brief business meeting before th we start picking up pinecones. On January 15 there will be a park tour and Dave offered to drive the van from First Baptist Church. Meeting will be moved to 3 p.m. Dane Scalise reported that the sustainability manager has started in her position. ADJOURNMENT Since there was no further business there was a motion to adjourn. MOTION: Sean Olds MOVED; SECONDED by Mark Ihnat. Motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:13 pm.
