Hydraulic Analysis of Required Fire Flow
Dear Mr. Griswold:
Along with representatives from Cape Fear Public Utility Authority and New Hanover County Fire
Services, Odyssey Fire Protection conducted a hydrant flow test near the above referenced site. As
shown on the attached exhibit map, the hydrant flow test was conducted at existing hydrants along US
Highway 421 adjacent to the above referenced site.
Based on the results hydrant flow test, Paramounte Engineering, Inc. (PEI) completed hydraulic
analysis of required fire flow using WaterCAD software. Detailed results of this analysis are enclosed.
As shown in the enclosed Required Fire Flow Calculation Per 2018 NCFSC Appendix B, the minimum
fire flow required is 1,500 gpm. The enclosed results of the hydraulic analysis show this flow to be
maintained throughout the proposed system.

REQUIRED FIRE FLOW CALCULATION PER 2018 NCFSC APPENDIX B
Project: Wilmington Trade Center Buildings 4 & 7
Location: 3930 N. US Highway 421, Wilmington, NC
Fire Flow Calculation Area: 152,880 Sq. Ft.
Construction Type: II-B
Buildings will be outfitted with ESFR sprinkler system.
Per Table B105.2, for a building of this type with an automatic sprinkler system, the Minimum Fire-
Flow required will be 25% the value in Table B105.1(2). Flow Duration will be the value in Table
B105.1(2) at the reduced flow rate.
Based on the Fire Flow Calculation Area and Construction Type provided above, Table B105.1(2)
indicates:
Fire Flow = 4,250 gpm x 0.25 = 1,062.5 gpm (20 PSI)
[NOTE: Reduced Fire Flow shall not be less than 1,500 gpm, so Fire Flow required is
1,500 gpm]
Flow Duration = 4 hours at 1,500 gpm
