Adjournment NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 2 REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 3, 2024 ASSEMBLY The Parks Advisory Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the Airlie Cottage. Present: Jordan Nason, Carol Hunter, Ryan Bisplinghoff, Mary Ellen Lavoie, Gayle Tabor, and Josie Barnhart Excused: Caleb Rash Staff: Andy Johnson, Latashia Smith, Tara Duckworth, and Tanya Gurganious WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Ryan Bisplinghoff. Ryan asked if everyone had a chance to review the minutes and if there were any changes. Mary Ellen was listed accidentally listed Maryanne in the minutes. Hearing no other changes, the following motion was presented: MOTION: Ryan Bisplinghoff MOVED; SECONDED by Carol Hunter, that the minutes of the November meeting be approved as amended. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Top of Mind Topics Carol was curious about any follow up from the meeting between Parks and Cape Fear Pickleball. Tanya Tara but went over a few takeaways from that meeting such as the signage and getting ambassadors. Cape Fear Pickleball is willing to pay for the paddle stations and wanted to know if they could get their name on them as well. They also discussed having the pickleball courts numbered like the tennis courts. The board discussed what could be done to alleviate some of the issues surrounding pickleball courts and tossed around the idea of having people make reservations. 2. Staff Updates. th Smith Creek Park Phase 2 is out for bids. The deadline is January 7. Northern Regional Park Phase 2 will go out for bid in the next week or two. Laney tennis courts were resurfaced. Ogden tennis court resurfacing is delayed until spring. Echo Farms additional clay courts will go out for bid in January if all permits that are needed are received. Trails End Pier rebuild: New pilings are in. Expected completion at the end of January or February if all goes well. NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS ADVISORY BOARD PAGE 3 REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 3, 2024 The Middle Sound Red Cedar to Publix and Market Street Mendenhall to PN Walmart of the trail is 90% signed off by Department of Transportation. It should go out to bid fairly soon. Discussed the Bryant Farms property and the acquisition of undeveloped property in the county. Next Meeting. The next board meeting will take place at the Airlie Cottage on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. There will not be a meeting in January due to the proximity of the holiday. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Ryan Bisplinghoff MOVED; SECONDED by Josie Barnhart, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
