REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 19, 2024
ASSEMBLY
The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, at 5:30 pm
at Shelter 6 in Long Leaf Park. Since there was not a quorum yet, the members present at that time
picked up pinecones as the designated board service project for the meeting. We will adjust the
time of year so there will be more light the next time we pick up pinecones.
Present: Dana Lingenfelser, Monty Hobbs, Cassidy Santaguida, Hillary Stevens, Sean Olds, Dave Ellegood,
Mark Ihnat, and Walter Whaley.
Excused: Nivine Richie, Susanne Werner, Dane Scalise and Rex Burford
Staff: Tanya Gurganious, Janine Powell, and Latashia Smith
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Dana Lingenfelser welcomed everyone in attendance and called the meeting to order. She asked if
everyone had a chance to review the minutes and asked if there were any changes. Monty noted
that he was not marked as being in attendance. The following motion was made:
MOTION: Cassidy Santaguida MOVED; Mark Ihnat SECONDED, to approve the September
minutes as corrected. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Financial Report.

Total income of $145.85
Expenses:
September: $99.90- Tax Filing
$70.60-Supplies
$119.88- GODADDY.COM (Conservancy website hosting)
$80.00- QuickBooks renewal
$25- monthly fee for online banking transactions
Total Expense: $395.38
Staff Report. Janine gave an update about Smith Creek Park Phase 2, Northern Regional
Park Phase 2.
NHC Parks and Gardens was chosen for a grant from the Cape Fear Garden Club Garden
Tour Grant to plant 10 live oaks at Kings Grant Park.

Parks was invited to submit the full application to the Wilmington Metropolitan Planning
Organization for the South College Road trail program. It is a 3.8-million-dollar grant.
WMPO is also providing funds for the Middle Sound Loop trail to connect Red Cedar Road
to Market Street up to Mendenhall.
Met with Leadership Wilmington about a pruning project at Smith Creek
Park. Each year Leadership Wilmington chooses a non-profit to work with.
Food Truck Rodeo 2025 date is April 27, 2024.
Kayak launch at Smith Creek Park has been replaced
Trails End pier is being replaced.
Old Business/New Business. Monty Hobbs asked about the Conservancy website and how
often it was updated. He saw several areas that needed to be updated. Janine will update
them and send a link to the website and all social media pages and asked the board to
please follow our pages and like, comment and share posts.
New member Walter Whaley introduced himself.
In keeping with our theme of more hands-on meetings, the next meeting will be on January
th
15 there will be a park tour and Dave offered to drive the van from First Baptist Church.
Meeting will be moved to 3 p.m.
ADJOURNMENT
Since there was no further business there was a motion to adjourn.
MOTION: Mark Ihnat MOVED; SECONDED by Cassidy Santaguida. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 6:25 pm.
Next meeting: January 15, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
