NEW HANOVER COUNTY PARKS CONSERVANCY BOARD PAGE 3 REGULAR MEETING MARCH 18, 2025 Staff Report. Janine invited board members to join staff and members of Cape Fear Garden st Club on April 1 at 10:00 a.m. for the Plant An Azalea project. Over 100 Azaleas will be planted in the Airlie Spring Garden. Its Cape Fear Garden centennial year and therefore they are planting 100 azaleas. Received a grant from the Cape Fear Garden Club beautification endowment for almost $7,000. Used those funds to plant over 40 trees at Smith Creek Park. Parks Leadership Wilmington has chosen Smith Creek Park as one of their Work on Wilmington projects. They will be pruning the pines around the lake to open up the view of the lake as the trees get taller. Phase II of Smith Creek Park starts on March 19, 2025. Less than 10% of that side of the park will be impacted. New Hanover County has implemented a new policy for capital improvement projects that will use up 10% of the cost of the project for public art. Staff prepared a request for artists and will be interviewing artists on Friday. There will be $100,000 going towards public art. Food Truck Rodeo 2025 date is April 27, 2024. Recently planted 10 Live Oaks at Kings Grant Park. Grown from Airlie Oak acorns at Penderlea Farms. Trails End pier project has been completed. Discovered issues with the bulkhead. This project could cost $900,000 to complete. Currently looking at grants to fund this project. Food Truck Rodeo is scheduled for April 27, 2025. Since there was only room for 28 trucks, 6 had to be eliminated. Food trucks pay a flat fee to participate. Conservancy usually makes anywhere from $4,000 to $6,000 from the event. Proceeds will go towards the pump track that is being added to Northern Regional Park. Plant An Azalea Cards were just restocked and are $15. Great gift idea for Mothers Day. For every $15 donated an azalea is planted in a New Hanover County Park. Old Business/New Business: The next meeting will be a parks tour. The meeting will take place in the van.
