HomeMy WebLinkAbout06-01-2015 BOER MeetingASSEMBLY The 2015 New Hanover County Board of Equalization and Review met on Monday, June 1, at 9:00 a.m. in the Lucie F. Harrell Conference Room of the New Hanover County Government Center, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, North Carolina. The purpose of the meeting was to hear appeals by property owners regarding their 2015 tax value assessments. Members present for the session were: James Brumit (Chairman), Nancy Pritchett, Robert Glasgow, Hector Ingram, Charles Davis and Campbell Dodd. Staff members present were: Tax Administrator Roger Kelley, Appraisal Supervisor James Paulk, Appraisers Eric Cole, Steve Walker, Tom Davis and Jim Young, and Appraisal Administrative Support Technician Juanita Wallace. Chairman James Brumit called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. AGENDA ITEM # 1: Approval of Minutes No minutes to approve AGENDA ITEM # 2: Old Business There was no new business. AGENDA ITEM # 3: New Business Next Board of Equalization Meeting schedule for Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9am-5pm. AGENDA ITEM # 4: Affirmation of the Following Signed and Agreed Values Chairman James Brumit presented a list of appellants who, in writing, have agreed to the value recommended by the appraisers and agreed to withdraw their appeals. Motion: Nancy Pritchett MOVED, SECONDED by Campbell Dodd, to affirm the assessed values of the appeals listed below as withdrawn or agreed upon by appellants. Upon vote, the motion carried 6 to 0. Each appellant was informed that the Board would make decisions following the hearings and they would be notified by mail of the Board’s decision in ten days. 1. Upon vote, the motion carried 4 to 2. Upon vote, the motion carried 6 to 0. AGENDA ITEM # 6: Affirmation of Recommended Values for Scheduled Hearings for Appellants Who failed to Appear The Chairman James Brumit asked for affirmation of values for appellants who failed to show. Nancy Pritchett Moved, Seconded by Robert Glasgow for 9AM appellants. Chuck Davis Moved, Seconded by Hector Ingram 1PM appellants. Upon vote, the motion carried 6 to 0 for both sessions. AGENDA ITEM # 7: Schedule Future Meetings The Board discussed the next meeting which will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2015 instead of Friday, July 10, 2015 at 9am-5pm with all 6 Board members to attend. AGENDA ITEM # 8: Adjournment There being no further business to consider, Chairman James Brumit recessed the 2015 Board of Equalization and Review at 2:55 p.m. until the next hearing date scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2015.
