HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes 06 19 25 LAB finalMinutes 06 19 2025 LAB Library Advisory Board June 19, 2025 Minutes Assembly: The Library Advisory Board met in the Regular Session on Thursday, June 19th at 1:30 pm at the Pleasure Island Library. Conners, Dana PRESENT Mays, Yvette PRESENT Zimmer, Ronna (Foundation Rep) EXCUSED Petcovic, Monica (Friends Rep) PRESENT Welcome Patricia Lawler convened the meeting at 1:40 pm. The board introduced themselves and welcomed the new member, Earl Sheridan. Database Spotlight None Public Comment None Agenda Review Approved Approval of Previous Minutes The minutes from the last board meetings on May 15, 2025, were sent to the board prior to the meeting for review. Minutes 06 19 2025 LAB Motion: Ellen Haragan MOVED, SECONDED by Shaun Assael, to accept the minutes of the 05/15/25 as written. Upon voting, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Correspondence None Friends of the Library FOL Representative, Monica Petcovic, reported the following: • A new treasurer was voted in • June 30, 2026 is the 50th anniversary of the FOL. They are considering a fundraising event. • The Summer book sale starts on Friday, August 1st with the FOL night. If you are not already a member, you can register at the door. • Three FOL members are participating in this year’s Book Fest. • The FOL has approximately 550 members. Library Foundation Next meeting will be in August. Director’s Report The County Commissioners approved a tax rate of 30.6 cents per $100 of assessed value. Department heads will meet with NHC Budget staff next week to determine how the budget will impact their services. The Sheriff’s dept., Senior Resource Center, Veterans Services and 911 are not included in the budget cuts. The lower tax rate will result in reduction to services and staff throughout the county. There will be approximately 100 positions eliminated countywide, but the impact to the library has not yet been determined. We do know that we requested 13 positions for Northchase, but will only have 9 positions for that library. There will be impacts on library services and programs, but those have not yet been determined. The board will be notified when decisions have been made. Potential Funding from grants and fundraising was discussed by the board. Project Grace • Exterior rock walls and landscaping are being installed. • The move will take place in August/September while the parking deck is closed for repairs. • We will open to the public in early October. Northchase • The January/February 2026 opening will be pushed back a couple of months. Minutes 06 19 2025 LAB Summer @ Your Library – Beanstack • Summer Reading kicked off at Long Leaf Park with over 600 people in attendance. • 661 children, 57 teens, and 255 adults have already signed up in Beanstack. • Kids & Teens: Color Our World runs June & July • Adults: True Crime Summer runs June – August. o Author Visit from Valerie Bauerlein. The Devil at His Elbow: Alex “Murdock”. o Saturday, August 21 @ 2:00 @ NE Customer Survey Last year’s survey was in conjunction with the county’s survey and only yielded 194 responses. This year, the library conducted their own survey from May 1-31, and collected 742 responses. Each question was focused on the library’s strategic plan targets. The results were presented and reviewed by the board. TARGET #1 DESIRED OUTCOME STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE TARGET Residents feel their cultures and interests are valued and know resources are available to enhance their quality of life Develop resources to better support diverse interests and abilities 75% of respondents report they feel their cultures and interests are reflected in the library's resources TARGET #2 DESIRED OUTCOME STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE TARGET Residents feel their cultures and interests are valued and know resources are available to enhance their quality of life Develop resources to better support diverse interests and abilities 100% of library displays are informed by the interests and needs of residents TARGET #10 DESIRED OUTCOME STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE TARGET The community takes advantage of opportunities and services that are convenient and meaningful Provide flexible and responsive services to meet the customer's needs 75% of respondents report that library programs and services are offered at times that meet their needs Minutes 06 19 2025 LAB New Business None Old Business The LAB By-laws were updated in 2020 but were not forwarded to the NHC County Commissioners for approval. The last approved by-laws were from 2011. To correct this oversite, the board has been reviewing and revising them for amendment. Motion: Lynn Kozik MOVED, SECONDED by Harriet Smith. To accept the amended LAB By-Laws and recommend they are presented to the NHC County Commissioners for adoption. Upon voting, the MOTION WAS CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Adjournment The board adjourned the meeting at 2:55 p.m. There is no meeting in July. Our next meeting will be August 21st.
