HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Conservancy Bd Minutes Nov 2013Assembly: The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC. Present: Faye Brock, Oliver Carter, John Dismukes, Melissa Ivey, Theron Marshall (via telephone) and Eric Blaesing. Absent: Tom Conway, Commissioner Beth Dawson and Jeremy Wilson. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell. Topics: Approval of August minutes. Motion by Eric Blaesing, second by Oliver Carter. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Committee Reports a. Policy. Oliver asked if anyone had any questions regarding the gift acceptance policy. (The policy was distributed prior to the meeting for board review.) There being none, Oliver presented the following motion: MOTION: That the board adopt the Gift Acceptance Policy as written; second by Eric Blaesing. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Oliver then reviewed the Naming and Sponsorship Policy. After reviewing he presented the following motion: MOTION: That the board adopt the Naming and Sponsorship Policy as written; second by Eric Blaesing. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. b. Volunteer. Faye Brock shared that the committee had been busy researching a name for volunteers. The committee decided on STARS and Faye presented the following motion: MOTION: That the board adopt STARS as the name for the Parks Conservancy Board volunteers; seconded by John Dismukes. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Faye also shared that the committee is getting ready to solicit volunteers. (She spoke with Flo Berry, Volunteer Coordinator at Airlie, and received some good information.) The volunteer committee will continue work closely with the event committee. c. Events. Eric Blaesing provided a handout which detailed information obtained regarding an upcoming food truck event at Ogden Park. The name of the event will be a Park-a-Roo and it will take place March 23, 2014. Possible participants will be area food, beer and wine vendors. Eric will reach out to the organizers of the Raleigh food truck events to get ideas and suggestions. d. Fundraising. John Dismukes shared that pledge forms have been distributed to all board members. The NC Department of Revenue has certified the Parks Conservancy as a non-profit. Non-Agenda Items. Tara Duckworth asked if the board felt we should have a December meeting. Those present did not feel the need to do so. The next meeting will take place January 21st. Tara also shared that Jodi Dellinger (who does the Parks newsletter) is working on putting together one for the Conservancy. Adjournment.
