HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Conservancy Bd Minutes Mar 2014Assembly: The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 18, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC.
Present: Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Oliver Carter, Melissa Ivey and Jeremy Wilson.
Absent: Tom Conway, Commissioner Beth Dawson, John Dismukes and Theron Marshall.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell.

The meeting was called to order by Eric Blaesing who asked if there was a motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting. The following motion was presented:
Motion by Oliver Carter second by Melissa Ivey that the minutes of the February meeting be approved. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously.
Committee Reports
a. Policy. Oliver Carter shared that he and Jeremy have put their final touches on the 1023 Form for the Conservancy’s application for non-profit status. The form and necessary attachments
will be given to Tara to mail. It is anticipated that 501(c)3 status should be received in approximately 90 days of it being mailed.
b. Volunteer. Faye Brock shared that she will be checking volunteers in at the Frolic. She has secured 15 volunteers for the event. Additionally, there will be 6 volunteers from Starbucks.
Janine passed around a sign-up sheet for board members to sign their names where/what capacity they would like to volunteer.
c. Events. Beautification day will be held at Hugh MacRae Park on Saturday, May 17th from 9-12pm. Volunteers from Starbucks will be on hand to assist where needed. Working on getting
banners to hang on the fence on College Road as well as Oleander Drive.
d. Fundraising. To date $1,500 has been raised for the Food Truck Frolic.
Food Truck Frolic. Eric Blaesing shared that Rita’s Ice and Trolley Stop have also committed to the event. Additionally, two clothing trucks will also be there. There will be plenty
of things for people to do. Activities for the kids will include coloring, making soil blocks and use of the playground. For the adults there will be beer, wine and plenty of food to
eat.
Website. Janine shared that a domain name has been secured. It is www.nhcparksconservancy.org. The website is not up and running however, a Facebook page has been started. Board members
are encouraged to like the page and invite others to like it as well. A press release was sent out today as well as a blast email to 13,111 people.
Non-Agenda Items. Janine Powell shared that the first week in April is “Plant an Azalea Week”, which is a project sponsored by the Cape Fear Garden Club. They are paying for cards to
be printed which people can purchase and write a check to the Parks Conservancy. Azaleas will be bought with some of the funds collected and planted in various parks. The cards will
be sold in the Airlie gift shop.
Adjournment. Motion by Eric Blaesing; second by Oliver Carter that the meeting be adjourned. Meeting adjourned at 6:13pm.
