HomeMy WebLinkAboutParks Conservancy Bd Minutes Feb 2014Assembly: The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2013 at 5:30 P.M. in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC. Present: Theron Marshall, Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Oliver Carter, Tom Conway, Commissioner Beth Dawson, John Dismukes, Melissa Ivey, and Jeremy Wilson. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell. Topics: The meeting was called to order by Theron Marshall who asked if there was a motion to approve the minutes of the January meeting. The following motion was presented: Motion by Eric Blaesing; second by Faye Brock that the minutes of the January meeting be approved. Upon vote, the motion carried unanimously. Committee Reports a. Policy. Jeremy Wilson shared that with the help of Melissa Ivey’s brother Tara was able to get the Employee Identification Number (EIN). Oliver and Jeremy have split up portions of the 1023 Form and are reviewing it. They anticipate having it ready for staff review in two weeks. It is anticipated that once the form is reviewed by staff, the 501c3 status should be received in approximately 90 days. b. Volunteer. Faye Brock shared the volunteer committee has 17 volunteers. Additionally, they are asking board members to please forward names of any potential volunteers. The committee will be seeking staff input regarding job assignments and logistics for the volunteers before the Food Truck Frolic event. A possible opportunity for volunteers is the Boy Scout gathering in Brunswick County on March 1st. A parks presence will be at the event as well as hands-on activities. Brochures will also be available for those attending. c. Events. Melissa Ivey shared that the committee is ready for the Food Truck Frolic. Working on getting advertising so that the public is aware of this upcoming event. d. Fundraising. Although no committee meeting was held, it was shared that full board participation is requested by March 31st. Food Truck Frolic. Eric Blaesing shared a flyer of the upcoming event. It is anticipated that additional sponsors may be secured before the event. Eric also suggested an additional vendor be added. Jeremy will speak to someone at The Trolley Stop to see if they are interested. He will continue to work on getting potential sponsors. Currently $1,250 has been committed from four sponsors, Ward & Smith, North Carolina Wesleyan College, Wrightsville Dental and Century 21 Brock & Associates. Melissa will continue to get information to various media outlets. IRS Documentation. Tara Duckworth shared that there was nothing further to add. Non-Agenda Items. Tara Duckworth shared the she will be a guest speaker at a Parks Forum on WHQR next Tuesday, February 25th. Adjournment.
