HomeMy WebLinkAboutPksConservBd Minutes Aug 2015ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 18th, 2015 at 5:30pm in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC. Present: Faye Brock, Beth Crookham, Janeth Dill, Tori Jones, Anne Murray, Kelsey Obernuefemann and Jamie White. Absent: Eric Blaesing, Melissa Collins, Theron Marshall, Jeremy Wilson and Commissioner Rob Zapple. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES In Theron Marshall’s absence, the meeting was called to order by Tara Duckworth. For the benefit of the new board members, introductions were given by those present. Tara then asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the June meeting. MOTION: Faye Brock MOVED; SECONDED by Janeth Dill, that the minutes of the June meeting be approved as presented. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. Treasurer’s Report. Janine Powell reviewed the financials. The opening July balance was $14,469.05. With $25 received in the form of a donation and no other revenue or expenses noted, the closing balance as of July 31st was $14,494.05. Director’s Report. For the benefit of the newest board members, Tara Duckworth shared a copy of the parks brochure which shows all of the county parks. She then shared information regarding three major projects going on: Northern Regional Park (formerly Castle Hayne Park). We are currently in the first phase of redeveloping the 112 acre park. Additional funds have been requested to complete Phase II. Master Plan Update. The last master plan was completed 10 years ago. There were seven groups that sent in proposals of which a master plan design team will be selected in the next few weeks. Ogden Skate Park. We are currently working on a crowd funding video to go along with the fundraising. (The board was shown the video and suggestions were noted.) Staff is working on developing a logo. The closest skate park to Ogden Park is 12 miles away. Board Elections/Committee Assignments. To be discussed at next month’s meeting. Fall Food Truck Frolic. Janine Powell shared that the next Food Truck Frolic will take place Sunday, November 15th at Hugh MacRae Park. She is seeking fundraising assistance for the event. Thus far, 17th Street Skate has agreed to have a benefit event. (Janine will email details.) Janine is also in discussion with Liberty Tavern for a possible fundraising event there as well. Non-agenda Items. None discussed. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the following motion was presented: MOTION: Faye Brock MOVED; SECONDED by Janeth Dill, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 6:18 pm.
