ASSEMBLY
The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 at 5:30pm in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC.
Present: Jeremy Wilson (Chairman), Faye Brock, Melissa Collins, Tori Jones, Richard Lawson, Anne Murray (via telephone), and Commissioner Rob Zapple.
Absent: Eric Blaesing, Beth Crookham, Janeth Dill, Kelsie Obernuefemann and Jamie White.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Jeremy Wilson who asked if there were any corrections/revisions to the minutes of the October meeting. There were no changes noted and the following
motion was presented:
MOTION: Faye Brock MOVED; SECONDED by Commissioner Rob Zapple, that the minutes of the October meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Treasurer’s Report. Janine reported that the current balance in the account is $16,991.54. Will be purchasing QuickBooks after the first of the year for the maintenance of the conservancy
funds.
Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth presented a power point which contained a detailed overview of the entire Parks & Gardens department.
Ogden Skatepark Update. Janine Powell reported that the Indiegogo site is live and to date, $5,155 has been donated. Fermental will host a fundraiser on Saturday, January 9th. Will incorporate
a raffle as well as an auction. (Anne Murray has set up an online auction on 32auctions.com. She sent an email out to board members with instructions on how to donate items.) We already
have a paddle board that was donated by Tony Butler of Wrightsville Beach Live Surf. Wrightsville Beach Live Surf is also donating ad space. A simple design will be put together to
assist in drawing people to the Indiegogo site. Janine is also working on donor signage which will be shaped in the form of a skate board.
Andy Johnson shared that he has received great feedback from several concrete, steel, aggregate and grading companies who are willing to give donations for park construction. Rock Solid
concrete is providing all labor for free and Sam’s Landscaping has agreed to do the landscape installation for free as well.
Additionally, Pink Trash and Port-a-John have donated their services for the site. We are confident these in-kind donations will help to significantly reduce the price of construction.
Fall Food Truck Rodeo Report. Thus far, $833 has been collected from the most recent Rodeo.
Committee Reports.
Fundraising/Development. Tori Jones shared that the committee met recently and they have a lot going on behind the scenes. Anne Murray has put together the free auction site to aide
in fundraising efforts. There will be a small silent auction at Fermental on January 9th. If the items don’t sell at the small auction, they will be used for the online auction. Janine
shared that there has been some interest in a monthly BMX day at Greenfield Grind. The main focus will be on the skate park.
Volunteer and Events. Jeremy shared that Plant an Azalea will take place in April. Additionally, Faye Brock shared that she will have 200 realtor volunteers cleaning up at six parks
on April 25th.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the following motion was presented:
MOTION: Faye Brock MOVED; SECONDED by Tori Jones, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The meeting adjourned at 6:55pm.
Respectfully submitted,
