HomeMy WebLinkAboutPksConservBd Minutes Mar 2016 ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at 5:30pm in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC. Present: Jeremy Wilson (Chairman), Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Janeth Dill, Tori Jones, Richard Lawson and Commissioner Rob Zapple. Absent: Melissa Collins, Beth Crookham, Anne Murray, Kelsie Obernuefemann, Aileen Sutton and Jamie White. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Jeremy Wilson who asked if there were any corrections or revisions to the minutes of the February meeting. No changes were noted and the following motion was presented: MOTION: Eric Blaesing MOVED; SECONDED by Richard Lawson, that the minutes of the February meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Treasurer’s Report. Janeth reviewed the financials as of February 29, 2016. As of that date the balance was $34,482.35. Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth reported that the playground at Hugh MacRae Park will soon be torn down and replaced will an accessible playground funded by a grant from Trillium Resources. The existing playground for 2-5 year olds will be replaced with a Splash pad. Duke Energy was recently at Northern Regional Park putting in additional power. The ribbon cutting will take place in May. There will be a Master Plan meeting tomorrow, March 16th, 6:00pm at the Executive Development Center. Greenplay, the company conducting the master plan, will be one hand to share the survey results. Ogden Skate Park. a. Progress Update. Tara shared that a lot of the site work has been done. Unsuitable soils have been removed and the site has been cleared. There will be 150 dump truck loads of dirt delivered at the site this week. Tara will make a presentation to the commissioners to have funds transferred to the parks account. We currently have the funds for Phase I she will ask for use of DOT funds for Phase II. If approved by the commissioners, we will be able to complete both Phase I and II, which includes a one mile walking trail around park. b. Fundraising Update. Janine shared the exciting news that we have been awarded the Tony Hawk Grant. On Saturday, April 30th, Fermental will host another event with proceeds benefiting the skate park. Committee Reports/Discussion of 2016 Plans a. Fundraising & Development. Eric shared an update on the Food Truck Rodeo which will be held on Sunday, April 17th from 12-5pm. There are 13 confirmed vendors. New vendors are Wild Goat Waffles and Stevie Mack’s. (Flamingo Jacks is not available for the April event but has agreed to participate in the fall.) A schedule will be sent out for the board to sign up to help at specified times. Tori suggested that the committee meet to discuss fall events. Earth Day will take place the Saturday after the Food Truck Rodeo.  b. Volunteer. Faye Brock shared that the volunteer group from the Wilmington Regional Association of Realtors will have the parks looking great for the Azalea Festival. (Last count, there were around 400 confirmed.) ADJOURNMENT There being no further business, the following motion was presented: MOTION: Eric Blaesing MOVED; SECONDED by Janeth Dill, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 6:34pm.
