ASSEMBLY
The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 20th, 2015 at 5:30pm in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC.
Present: Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Beth Crookham, Tori Jones, Anne Murray, Kelsie Obernuefemann, Jamie White, Jeremy Wilson and Commissioner Rob Zapple.
Absent: Melissa Collins and Richard Lawson.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson and Janine Powell.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Jeremy Wilson who asked if there were any corrections/revisions to the minutes of the September meeting. There were no changes noted and the following
motion was presented:
MOTION: Anne Murray MOVED; SECONDED by Faye Brock, that the minutes of the September meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Treasurer’s Report. Janeth Dill shared that she and Janine talked about getting QuickBooks to keep track of all financial transactions. There is a nonprofit version available at a cost
of $50.
MOTION: Jeremy Wilson MOVED; SECONDED by Eric Blaesing that we purchase QuickBooks to more accurately keep track of finances. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
Janeth added that she will enter the financial information into QuickBooks and print checks.
During the month of September $105 was received from the Plant an Azalea program along with $0.12 interest. The ending balance as of September 30th was $14,599.29.
Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth that GreenPlay, the company selected to prepare the master plan, has begun the kickoff process. The November board meeting may serve as a public meeting
to gain the board’s input. Currently waiting for the final skate park construction bid. Tara then shared the video which will run on the Indiegogo site once the construction numbers
are final. Janine added that she will reapply for the $25,000 Tony Hawk Grant in January. She would like the board to strategize on how to show community support to provide more information
for the grant. Janine also recently attended a skate competition at the 17th Street Skate Shop and handed out skate park information. She has also had a conversation with the owner
about potential gifts. Janine will also attend an upcoming event at Greenfield Grind where screen printed t-shirts will be sold.
Tara then shared that the Northern Regional Park is coming along, although the soils are wet. Will know very soon about the outcome of the grant we applied for which would allow for
an inclusive playground to be installed at Hugh MacRae Park. Lastly, Tara shared that she and Janine did a presentation at the Newcomers Club and the Porters Neck Garden Club which
may garner new volunteers.
Fall Food Truck Rodeo. Eric Blaesing shared a final list of vendors for the Food Truck Rodeo to be held Sunday, November 15th, 12-5pm at Hugh MacRae Park. There are a total of 14 vendors
(10 food and 4 others). He asked if anyone could do anything to help promote the event, please do so. Currently, Ward & Smith are the sole sponsors.
2015-2016 Planning Discussion. There was some discussion regarding board plans for the coming year. Ideas brought forth were as follows:
Talking points on parks needed A map with parks
What is the board’s message/goal/expectation? How are we going to raise money for Ogden Skate Park?
Need trackable goals Volunteer events: What will be the focus?
Basic budget numbers (Possible tennis tournament? )

ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the following motion was presented:
MOTION: Eric Blaesing MOVED; SECONDED by Faye Brock, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The meeting adjourned at 6.42pm.
