HomeMy WebLinkAboutPksConservBd Minutes Mar 2017 ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 5:30pm in Conference Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC. Present, Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Janeth Dill, Cindy Kauth, Comer Lyons, and Jeremy Wilson. Absent: Tori Jones, Richard Lawson, Anne Murray and Commissioner Rob Zapple. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Janine Powell and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Eric Blaesing who welcomed those in attendance. Eric then asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the February meeting. MOTION: Faye Brock MOVED; SECONDED by Jeremy Wilson, that the minutes of the February 21st meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Treasurer’s Report. Janeth Dill reviewed the February financials. The balance is just under $10,000. Director’s Report & Skate Park Update. Tara Duckworth shared that a trash mob will take place on Earth Day, Saturday April 22nd, from 9:00-11:00am. Asked board members if they are interested to contact Jodi Dellinger who will place them on a team. The supplies being used for the event were purchased and donated by Joe Suleyman of the County Environmental Management department. The splash pad opening will take place on April 1st from 12-2pm. Janine has worked on a write-up re: challenge course for board members to share with potential donors. Lastly, the official skate park ribbon cutting will take place during the Food Truck Rodeo at 2:00pm. Food Truck Rodeo. Eric shared that the Food Truck Rodeo will take place on Sunday, April 23rd at Ogden Park from 12noon-5:00pm. There are eighteen food trucks confirmed. Additionally, there will be beer & wine sold. At the April meeting, he will have a sign-up sheet so board members can sign up to man the Conservancy table at the event. For next meeting we will have a sign-up sheet for people to man the table which will be sent out via email. (The tent needs to be manned so board can share information on the mission of the conservancy as well as sell items. Eric asked board members to have sponsors names they have secured in by April 5th. Faye Brock has secured two sponsors, and Jeremy has secured a sponsor from Ward & Smith. The sponsor poster will be available for board members and sponsors to put in advertising the event. An email reminder will be sent out some time after April 5th. Challenge Course Project. Eric asked the board to continue to think about what can be done to raise funds. He shared that staff has been refining the grants list and is looking at when applications need to be turned in. Eric asked the board to send any ideas they may have to Janine Powell. Committee Reports. Faye shared that the realtor clean-up event will take place on April 4th at Snows Cut & Ogden Parks, with over 750 volunteers signed up. Next Meeting Date. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 18th. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Jeremy Wilson MOVED; SECONDED by Faye Brock, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 6:02pm.
