ASSEMBLY
The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 5:30pm in conference room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington NC.
Present: Jeremy Wilson (Chairman), Eric Blaesing, Faye Brock, Tori Jones, Cindy Kauth, Comer Lyons, Anne Murray, Richard Lawson and Commissioner Rob Zapple.
Absent: Beth Crookham, Janeth Dill, Kelsie Obernuefemann and Aileen Sutton.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious and Janine Powell.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Jeremy Wilson who asked the new board members (Cindy Kauth and Comer Lyons) to introduce themselves, followed by introductions by the rest of the board
and staff.
He then asked if there was a motion to approve the minutes of June meeting. The following motion was presented:
MOTION: Richard Lawson MOVED; SECONDED by Eric Blaesing, that the minutes of the June meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1. Treasurer’s Report. Janine Powell shared that the account balance is currently $67,380. (The $51,000 donation from the Tony Hawk Foundation will be deducted in the next month or
so.)
Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth reported that the Hugh MacRae playground has been completed. New workout equipment was also added to the playground so that parents can work out as
while their children play. Currently working to get the health department permit squared away for the splashpad. Upon receiving the permit, the splashpad should take about three weeks
to complete. The one-mile walking trail at Ogden Park has been completed. This trail also connects to the existing trail which was widened to 10 feet. Workout equipment will also be
added at Ogden Park as well. Additionally, also looking at the possibility of adding a basketball court as well. The Ribbit Exhibit at Airlie Gardens will end on September 5th and the
Airlie Oyster Roast will take place on Friday, October 21st. Currently working on getting the 10-year master plan finished. Will have a draft for board review at the September meeting.
Re-lamping of tennis courts and baseball fields is taking place at Ogden and Hugh MacRae Parks.
Ogden Skate Park
Progress Update. Staff is waiting to hear from the Landfall Foundation as well as the Wilmington Rotary Club regarding grants that were submitted. Additional funding in the amount of
$51,000 was received from the Tony Hawk Foundation, bringing the total raised to $76,000. Additionally, the “Rad for Ray” event will take place here in Wilmington in 2017.
Election of Officers. Jeremy asked those present who they would like to nominate for the following positions: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. After some discussion,
the following slate of nominees were approved.
President: Eric Blaesing
Vice President: Richard Lawson
Secretary: Jeremy Wilson
Treasurer: Janeth Dill
The board also discussed possible committee assignments. However, a decision will be made at a later date.
Food Truck Rodeo. Eric Blaesing shared a list of 18 trucks that have already committed to the event. (The next event will take place October 23rd at Hugh MacRae Park.) Janine shared
that she will email sponsorship information to the board. (Sponsorships are available for $250 and $500.)
Non-Agenda Items. The board was asked to think about possible meeting times. This will be discussed at the September meeting.

MOTION: Jeremy Wilson MOVED; SECONDED by Eric Blaesing, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The meeting adjourned at 6:32pm.
