Janeth Dill informed the board that she completed the taxes for 2015. In addition, she learned that the taxes for 2011-2014 must be refiled since a 990 postcard was not adequate for our 509 (c) (3) status. This has been done with the filing of the taxes for those years. In addition, we had to refile our 1023 status exemption application. Once it is accepted again, we will be squared away. The 2016 taxes are due on November 15th of this year since our accounting period runs from July 1 through June 30th. Janeth also reviewed the financials, adding that there was minor activity in January. The account balance is $10,000. Director’s Report & Skate Park Update. Tara Duckworth shared that staff plans are under way to do a new program called a “Trash Mob”. It is anticipated that the Trash Mob will coincide with the upcoming golf tournament in May. It will be kicked off on the 22nd of April. Joe Suleyman is helping by supplying equipment that will be needed (gloves, pickers, etc.). Jodi will also help going forward. This is a great opportunity to get the Conservancy name out there and well as partner with area businesses. Staff member Jennifer O’Keefe, has submitted an application for us to adopt Harris Road (near Smith Creek Park) If approved, we will have a permanent green sign that says: Adopted by the New Hanover County Parks Conservancy. Flash drives were handed out to each board member. The flash drives contain three presentations. One is the 2016 park informational Power Point, the second is the 2017 overview which is a snapshot of the parks and the 3rd presentation is information about why parks are important as well as economic benefits of having a park near your home, etc. Tara also shared a video on the prospective Challenge Course which, when funds are raised, will be located at Northern Regional Park. She and Andy made the decision to shop around the idea to various companies to hopefully get a lower price. Board Nominations. Tara shared that there are three vacancies that will come before the Commissioners at upcoming meetings. She asked the board if they knew of someone who would be a great fit, to please encourage them to apply. Tara offered to take any prospective board member on a tour and/or do a presentation for them. Eric added that it’s important to inform prospective board members what our mission is; that we are a fundraising group. Food Truck Rodeo. The food truck Rodeo will take place at Ogden Park on April 23, 2017. Eric shared an updated list of those food trucks that are signed up to participate this year.
