HomeMy WebLinkAboutPksConservBd Minutes August 2017 ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at 5:30pm in Conference Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC. Present: Eric Blaesing (presiding), Faye Brock, Janeth Dill, Anne Murray, Tori Jones, Richard Lawson, Jessica Wilson and Commissioner Rob Zapple. Absent: Justin Gibson, Cindy Kauth, Comer Lyons, Paul Smith and Jeremy Wilson. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Janine Powell and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Eric Blaesing who welcomed those in attendance. He then asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the July18th meeting. MOTION: Richard Lawson MOVED; SECONDED by Faye Brock, that the minutes of the July 18th meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 1. Treasurer’s Report. Janeth reported that the current account balance is $12,281 and our income YTD is $2,300. Janeth is also currently working on the taxes for last year. 2. Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth reported that there have been no more incidents of graffiti at the skate part since last month’s incident. She spoke with a reporter from WECT regarding vandalism. Rodeo Update. Eric Blaesing shared that $1,300 has been collected. There are seven trucks who have yet to submit any money. The fall Food Truck Rodeo will take place on Sunday, October 29th at Hugh MacRae Park. There are ten trucks who have committed thus far. Hoping to get more promotion out ahead of the event to help with attendance. Coastal Challenge Update/Next Steps. Tori Jones shared that she and Richard Lawson met for a brainstorming session to discuss possible ways to generate money. She also met with Michelle Fogle of Fleet Feet Sports who was a great resource. Michelle suggested that the event be held in late February or early March due to the influx of events coming up this year. She also suggested that the name be changed to Coastal Fitness Challenge with classes like boot camp & yoga, etc. The time and format will be changed as well with the event running from 8-12noon with concurrent ½ hour classes. The minimum suggested donation per class would be $20 for adults and $10 for youth or 2 adult classes for $35 and 2 youth classes for $15. Promotion would be via social media only. Prior to next meeting, will reach out to Whole Foods to see if they would be willing to donate food/beverages and will see if food trucks would like to participate. Board members are asked to secure 2 raffle items by the next board meeting. Tori hopes to have a proposal to bring to the board at the September meeting. T-Shirt Program. Jodi Rich shared that the t-shirts have been ordered for the board and staff.  Next Meeting Date. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 19th. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Richard Lawson MOVED; SECONDED by Faye Brock, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 6:23pm.
