HomeMy WebLinkAboutPksConservBd Minutes Oct 2017ASSEMBLY The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 5:30pm in Conference Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC. Present: Eric Blaesing (presiding), Anne Murray, Tori Jones, Justin Gibson, Cindy Kauth, Comer Lyons, Paul Smith, Jeremy Wilson and Commissioner Rob Zapple. Absent: Faye Brock, Janeth Dill, Richard Lawson and Jessica Wilson. Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Janine Powell and Jodi Rich. WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES The meeting was called to order by Eric Blaesing who welcomed those in attendance. There was no meeting held in September, thus we did not have minutes to approve. 1. Treasurer’s Report. Janine Powell reported that there was one expense which was for the cost of the t-shirts. Additionally, a check was received from Jersey Mike’s in Monkey Junction. They asked that the funds be specifically designated for Veterans Park improvements. 2. Director’s Report. Tara Duckworth reported that we received a check and Innovation Award from the Local Government Federal Credit Union (LGFCU) at the Commissioner’s meeting for the Ogden Skate Park project. Rodeo Update. Eric Blaesing shared that there are 16 trucks who have affirmatively said they will participate. He also asked board members to sign up for shifts to man the tent if possible. Posters were available for board members to pick up after the board meeting to share as they desired. T-Shirt Program. Justin along with Jodi did a great job with the t-shirts. Those present were provided their t-shirt and asked to wear it at the Food Truck Rodeo. The board discussed how to give the t-shirts to volunteers based on volunteer hours. Commissioner Zapple asked if it would be possible to provide a t-shirt to the food truck vendors? Those present agreed that one t-shirt would be provided, per truck, to be worn by the server. Also, the t-shirts will be sold the day of the Rodeo for $15. The board will discuss at a future meeting, whether to purchase car magnets to sell. Coastal Challenge Update/Next Steps. Tori Jones introduced Michelle Fogle, owner of Fleet Feet. She shared that the date for the boot camp fundraiser will be February 24th. Would like to have diversity in the classes; include something for the youth to participate in. Suggested we use fitness people who have strong followings. Doing this would ensure each class is full. Possibly eight classes, capped based on instructors. Instructors will probably donate their time and are self-insured or insured through their work so there should not be much expense. Marketing can be done via social media. Line up instructors by next meeting so that we can begin marketing. Next Meeting Date. Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the next meeting will take place on Tuesday, November 28th. ADJOURNMENT MOTION: Jeremy Wilson MOVED; SECONDED by Justin Gibson, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. The meeting adjourned at 6:30pm. Respectfully submitted, Tanya Gurganious Administrative Coordinator -Please note that the above minutes are not a verbatim record of the New Hanover County Parks Conservancy Board meeting.
