The Parks Conservancy Board held its regular meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2020 at 5:30pm in Conference Room 119, 230 Government Center Drive, Wilmington, NC.
Present: Jessica Gray, (presiding), Michelle Fogle, Jessica Gray, Cheryl Hannah, Mark Ihnat, Amy McGlinn, and Spero Pekatos.
Absent: Commissioner Jonathan Barfield, Alyson Fleming, Lynn Kozik, Shane Mellin, Jim Orr and Sarah Snyder.
Staff: Tara Duckworth, Tanya Gurganious, Andy Johnson, Janine Powell and Jodi Rich.
WELCOME AND APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The meeting was called to order by Jessica Gray who welcomed those in attendance. She then asked for a motion to approve the minutes of the January 21st meeting.
MOTION: Jessica Gray, MOVED; SECONDED by Michelle Fogle, that the minutes of the January 21st meeting be approved. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
1. Treasurer’s Report. Spero provided an update of the financials as of January 31st. Total net income was $2,305; gross profit was $105 from Plant an Azalea. Expenses incurred were
$3,345 for the purchase of trees for Echo Farms and Northern Regional Park. Total assets were $56,291.
2. Director’s Report. Tara shared staff is focusing on beautification. Parks will be in charge of maintaining the Market Street medians from Middle Sound Loop to Porters Neck near Walmart.
She and Andy met with DOT to discuss what can be placed there. (Would like to replicate what the city has on Eastwood Road.) Will speak with business owners along the side of Market
Street to see if they would like to assist in putting trees up. Also met with Cape Fear Alliance for Trees. The county will acquire additional FEMA properties which the Parks department
will maintain. Would like to place trees on these properties to help with stormwater. Would like to use the Plant an Azalea and Beautification funds as seed money to start the project.
Will do a slide show to include FEMA properties as an educational component and ask the board to vote on this issue. Plant an Azalea is scheduled March 31st, 10am at Ogden Park. Janine
will send a calendar invite out to the board. The azaleas will be planted near the baseball fields.
3. Food Truck Rodeo. Cheryl Hannah shared that the application period closed on Monday, February 17th. She and Jodi will meet on Friday to go over the list of 60 applicants. (There
is only enough space to accommodate 30 food trucks) They will give preference to local vendors as well as those who have participated frequently in the past.
4. Other Business/New Business. Michelle Fogle shared that she will provide some imaging so it can be put in the newsletter regarding the shoe drive. The imaging will include the parameters
of shoes than can be accepted. Locations where the shoe boxes will be placed were also discussed. A box will be placed at the Government Center, Airlie Gardens and downtown. Spero
also shared that he will ask if a box can be placed in his neighborhood club house. The next Saturday trash mob is scheduled for Saturday, March 14th on Harris Road.
5. Next Meeting Date. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 17th.

MOTION: Cheryl Hannah MOVED; SECONDED by, Michelle Fogle that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote, the MOTION CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY.
The meeting adjourned at 6:06pm.
