RUNOFF-PRODUCING RAINFALL, BUT IN NO CASE, LESS THAN ONCE EVERY WEEK AND WITHIN 24 HOURS OF EVERY HALF INCH
RAINFALL.
2.ALL POINTS OF EGRESS WILL HAVE CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCES THAT WILL BE PERIODICALLY TOP-DRESSED WITH AN ADDITIONAL 2
INCHES OF 2-3 INCH STONE TO MAINTAIN PROPER DEPTH. THEY WILL BE MAINTAINED IN A CONDITION TO PREVENT MUD OR
SEDIMENT FROM LEAVING THE SITE. IMMEDIATELY REMOVE OBJECTIONABLE MATERIAL SPILLED, WASHED OR TRACKED ONTO THE
CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE OR ROADWAYS.
3.SEDIMENT WILL BE REMOVED FROM HARDWARE CLOTH AND GRAVEL INLET PROTECTION, ROCK DOUGHNUT INLET PROTECTION,
SEDIMENT TRAP BAFFLES, AND ROCK PIPE INLET PROTECTION WHEN THE DESIGNED STORAGE CAPACITY HAS BEEN HALF FILLED WITH
SEDIMENT. ROCK WILL BE CLEANED OR REPLACED WHEN THE SEDIMENT POOL NO LONGER DRAINS AS DESIGNED. DEBRIS WILL BE
REMOVED FROM THE ROCK AND HARDWARE CLOTH TO ALLOW PROPER DRAINAGE. SILT SACKS WILL BE EMPTIED ONCE A WEEK AND
AFTER EVERY RAIN EVENT. SEDIMENT WILL BE REMOVED FROM AROUND BEAVER DAMS, DANDY SACKS AND SOCKS ONCE A WEEK AND
AFTER EVERY RAIN EVENT.
4.CHECK SEDIMENT BASIN AND BAFFLES WEEKLY & AFTER EACH RAINFALL EVENT. REMOVE SEDIMENT FROM TRAP & BAFFLES AND
RESTORE TO ORIGINAL VOLUME WHEN SEDIMENT ACCUMULATES TO ABOUT 12 THE DESIGN VOLUME. REPAIR / REPLACE BAFFLES IF
TORN, COLLAPSED, OR INEFFECTIVE.
5.DIVERSION DITCHES WILL BE CLEANED OUT IMMEDIATELY TO REMOVE SEDIMENT OR OBSTRUCTIONS FROM THE FLOW AREA. THE
DIVERSION RIDGES WILL ALSO BE REPAIRED. SWALES MUST BE TEMPORARILY STABILIZED WITHIN 21 CALENDAR DAYS OF CEASE OF
ANY PHASE OF ACTIVITY ASSOCIATED WITH A SWALE.
6.SEDIMENT WILL BE REMOVED FROM BEHIND THE SEDIMENT FENCE WHEN IT BECOMES HALF FILLED. THE SEDIMENT FENCE WILL BE
REPAIRED AS NECESSARY TO MAINTAIN A BARRIER. STAKES MUST BE STEEL. STAKE SPACING WILL BE 6 FEET MAX. WITH THE USE OF
EXTRA STRENGTH FABRIC, WITHOUT WIRE BACKING. STAKE SPACING WILL BE 8 FEET MAX WHEN STANDARD STRENGTH FABRIC AND
WIRE BACKING ARE USED. IF ROCK FILTERS ARE DESIGNED AT LOW POINTS IN THE IN THE SEDIMENT FENCE THE ROCK WILL BE
REPAIRED OR REPLACED IF IT BECOMES HALF FULL OF SEDIMENT, NO LONGER DRAINS AS DESIGNED OR IS DAMAGED.
7.FAIRCLOTH SKIMMER TO BE ROUTINELY CHECKED FOR SEDIMENT ACCUMULATION, TRASH, AND DEBRIS CLOGGING THE WATER
ENTRY ORIFICES. PULL SKIMMER TO SIDE OF BASIN AND HAND REMOVE SEDIMENT AND DEBRIS TO RESTORE FLOW TO ORIGINAL
STATE.
8.INSPECT WATTLES WEEKLY AND AFTER EACH SIGNIFICANT RAINFALL EVENT (1/2 INCH
OR GREATER). REMOVE ACCUMULATED SEDIMENT AND ANY DEBRIS. THE WATTLE
MUST BE REPLACED IF CLOGGED OR TORN. IF PONDING BECOMES EXCESSIVE, THE WATTLE MAY
NEED TO BE REPLACED WITH A LARGER DIAMETER OR A DIFFERENT MEASURE. THE WATTLE
NEEDS TO BE REINSTALLED IF UNDERMINED OR DISLODGED. THE WATTLE SHALL BE
INSPECTED UNTIL LAND DISTURBANCE IS COMPLETE AND THE AREA ABOVE THE MEASURE HAS
BEEN PERMANENTLY STABILIZED.
CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE:
*PRIOR TO START OF CONSTRUCTION, A PRE-CONSTRUCTION MEETING WITH THE NHC EROSION CONTROL
INSPECTOR MUST BE HELD.*
CONSTRUCTION OF SITE TO START WITH INSTALLATION OF CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE AND SILT FENCE ALONG ALL
LOCATIONS PER PLANS. UPON INSTALLATION OF SILT FENCE, TREES SHOULD BE REMOVED IN LOCATIONS AS
NECESSARY. NEXT THE SEDIMENT BASIN/WET POND SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED, INCLUDING OUTLET STRUCTURE
AND FAIRCLOTH SKIMMER. STORM DRAIN PIPING SHOULD NOW BE INSTALLED. AFTER STORM DRAIN PIPING IS
FINISHED, INLET PROTECTION SHOULD BE PROVIDED AT INLETS. SITE GRADING OF BUILDING PADS AND
PARKING/ACCESS AREAS SHOULD FOLLOW. ALL SLOPED AREAS SHOULD BE SEEDED IN ACCORDANCE TO
SPECIFICATIONS. SLOPE STABILIZATION IS WITHIN 21 CALENDAR DAYS OF ANY PHASE OF CONSTRUCTION. ALL
OTHER AREAS MUST BE STABILIZED WITH IN 15 WORKING DAYS. CONTRACTOR TO FOLLOW NPDES STABILIZATION
REQUIREMENTS PER TABLE ON THIS SHEET AS WELL. MOST STRINGENT REQUIREMENT TO BE MET.
1.GENERAL CLEARING AND GRADING OF THIS SITE WILL NOT BE DONE UNTIL THE TEMPORARY SILT FENCE &
CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE HAS BEEN INSTALLED.
2.NO CUT SLOPE OR FILL SLOPE SHALL EXCEED A RISE OR FALL OF ONE FOOT FOR EVERY RUN OF 3 FEET (1
VERTICAL TO 3 HORIZONTAL).
3.NO SEDIMENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO EXIT THE SITE. ALL EROSION SHALL BE CONTROLLED INCLUDING SIDE
SLOPES DURING AND AFTER CONSTRUCTION.
4.INSTALL PRIMARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES BEFORE BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION INCLUDING BUT NOT
LIMITED TO GRAVELED CONSTRUCTION ENTRANCE, SILT FENCE, TREE PROTECTION FENCE & SEDIMENT BASINS.
CONTRACTOR TO BE FAMILIAR WITH USACOE GENERAL PERMIT CONDITIONS FOR ROAD CROSSINGS. SPECIFIC
CONSTRUCTION METHODS MAY BE REQUIRED ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT IS SPECIFIED IN THIS PLAN. INSTALL
ALL SECONDARY EROSION CONTROL MEASURES, SUCH AS INLET PROTECTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER

5.ALL EROSION CONTROL MEASURES TO BE INSPECTED AFTER EACH RAIN. SILT FENCE AND INLET PROTECTION

QUESTIONS TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
15.THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE ANY AND ALL LAYOUT REQUIRED TO CONSTRUCT HIS WORK UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY OWNER.

19.CONCRETE FOR WALKS, CURBS AND DRIVES SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF 3000 PSI @ 28 DAYS - AIR ENTRAINED.
20.FIELD TESTING SHALL BE DONE BY AN INDEPENDENT TESTING LABORATORY PAID FOR BY THE OWNER. FURTHER TESTING REQUIRED DUE TO A FAILED
TEST WILL BE PAID FOR BY THE CONTRACTOR.

CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATIONS:
MATERIALS:
1. Use a synthetic filter fabric of at least 95% by weight of polyolefins or polyester, which is certified by the manufacturer of supplier as
conforming to the requirements in ASTM D 6461. Synthetic filter fabric should contain ultraviolet ray inhibitors and stabilizers to provide a

2. Ensure that posts are 1.25#/linear ft. min. steel with a min. length of 5'. Make sure that steel posts have projections to facilitate fastening the
fabric.
3. For reinforcement of standard strength filter fabric, use wire fence with a min. 14 ga. and a max. mesh spacing of 6".
CONSTRUCTION:
1. Construct the sediment barrier of standard strength or extra strength synthetic filter fabrics
2. Ensure that the height of the sediment fence does not exceed 24" above the ground surface. (Higher fences may impound volumes of water
sufficient to cause failure of the structure.)
3. Construct the filter fabric from a continuous roll cut to the length of the barrier to avoid joints. When joints are necessary, securely fasten the
filter cloth only at support post with 4' min. overlap to the next post.
4. Support standard strength filter fabric by wire mesh fastened securely to the upslope side of the posts. Extend the wire mesh support to the
bottom of the trench. Fasten the wire reinforcement, then fabric on the upslope side of the fence post. Wire or plastic zip ties should have
min. 50# tensile strength.
5. When a wire mesh support fence is used, space posts a max. of 8' apart. Support posts should be driven securely into the ground a min. of
24".
6. Extra strength filter fabric with 6' post spacing does not require wire mesh support fence. Securely fasten the filter fabric directly to posts.
Wire or plastic zip ties should have a min. 50 # tensile strength.
7.Excavate a trench approx. 4" wide and 8" deep along the proposed line of posts and upslope from the barrier.
8.Place 12" of the fabric along the bottom and side of the trench.
9. Backfill the trench with soil placed over the filter fabric and compact. Thorough compaction of the backfill is critical to silt fence
performance.
10. Do not attach filter fabric to existing trees.
MAINTENANCE:
Inspect sediment fences at least once a week and after each rainfall. Make any required repairs immediately.
Should the fabric of a sediment fence collapse, tear, decompose or become ineffective, replace it promptly.
Remove sediment deposits as necessary to provide adequate storage volume for the next rain and reduce pressure on the fence. Take care to avoid
undermining the fence during cleanout.
Remove all fencing materials and unstable sediment deposits and bring the area to grade and stabilize it after the contributing drainage area has
been properly stabilized.

2. Filter cloth, when used, must meet design requirements and be properly protected from punching or
tearing during installation. Repair any damage by removing the riprap and placing another piece of
filter cloth over the damaged area. All connecting joints should overlap so the top layer is above the
downstream layer a minimum of 1 foot. If the damage is extensive, replace the entire filter cloth.
3. Riprap may be placed by equipment, but take care to avoid damaging the filter.
4. The minimum thickness of the riprap should be 1.5 times the maximum stone diameter.
5. Riprap may be field stone or rough quarry stone. It should be hard, angular, highly weather-resistant
