Chairman Daniel Perkins called the meeting of the New Hanover County Tourism
Development Authority Board of Directors to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Lucie Harrell
Conference Room at the New Hanover County Government Center.

ITEM #2 – APPROVAL OF BOARD MINUTES FOR MAY 29 AND JUNE 12, 2019 –
Daniel Perkins
\[Motion made by Anne Brodsky, seconded by Patricia Kusek and carried
unanimously to approve the minutes from May 29, 2019 & June 12, 2019 NHC
TDA Board of Directors meetings as presented.\]
ITEM #3 – FINANCIALS/ROT REPORT – LISA WURTZBACHER
New Hanover County Finance Officer Lisa Wurtzbacher gave two reports. The first report
is for July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019. (copy attached)
BUDGET AMENDMENT: BA#2020-001 is to appropriate the Purchase Order rollover
for Audit Services and account for the payment against the Fiscal Year in which the
expense is paid. (the original was $67,363 with the amendment of $2,363 making the total of
$69,725)

unanimously to approve the Budget ammendent BA#2020-001 as presented.\]
ITEM #4 PROGRAM OF WORK PRESENTATION – KIM HUFHAM
President/CEO Kim Hufham presented the Program of Work/ Strategic Plan for 2019-2020.
(Copy located in Exhibit Book XIII) A full presentation to be given to constituents on
September 17, 2019. Presentation began with the State of Tourism:
2018 tourism expenditures of $612.92 million which equals a 6% increase
NHC generated $54.7 million in local State taxes.
More than 6,470 employed in travel and tourism related jobs equaling $149.14
millions in payroll
Each NHC resident’s taxes were offset by $228.31

Maintained 8 ranking among NC’s 100 counties; #2 ranking among coastal counties

Kim Hufham asked the representatives of our Agency of Record- Clean and French West
Vaughn- to give an overview of the 2018/2019 Fiscal year results
Kim Hufham stated that the format for this year’s Program of Work also includes the
2019/2020 Strategic Plan Objective and strategies & tactics that were identified for this fiscal
year.
Highlights from the Power Point program are Spring Campaign Overview, Strategic
Destination Plan with the goal being to enhance destination brand awareness, the Special
Interests Campaign (ways to experience the destination beyond the beach.
The board was shown a sampling of the marketing videos to coordinate the “Special Interests
Campaign.” There will be approximately 30 videos made for marketing purposes.

ITEM #5 -PRESIDENT’S Comments- Kim Hufham
President/CEO reminded all attendees that the Industry Presentation of this program would
be on September 17, 2019 at the Wilmington Convention Center.
ITEM #6– OLD BUSINESS/NEW BUSINESS- none
ITEM #7- CLOSED SESSION- Chairman Perkins advised the Board will enter into a
Closed Session to consider a specific personnel matter pursuant to G.S. 143-318.11 (a)(6).
All persons not Board members or specifically designated staff were asked to leave at this
time.

unanimously to approve a Closed Session\]
Chairman Perkins stated that the TDA Board is back in open session. It was the decision of the
Board that the Executive Committee would provide additional requested information for
consideration at the next TDA Board meeting.
Called for adjournment
As there was no further business, meeting adjourned at 7:25 p.m
